Alwen is a bright and airy holiday cottage in the hills of North Wales. This recent barn conversion with a modern open plan layout has been furnished with real style and elegance. The inclusion of a welcoming log fire combined with it’s quiet remote location make this the perfect destination for couples wanting to get away from it all.
The open plan living area has floor to ceiling windows that run along the length of this room giving it an ultra modern feel. Teal kitchen units are offset by 3 large lamps that hang down over the work space. All the appliances are new and there is everything you would need and expect for catering during your holiday. The contrasting vintage fold down dining room table and chairs works really well against everything else.
The sitting area is again simple and stylish. A corner sofa and retro arm chair provide the seating and the small tables, a mix of wood and teal bring it altogether. The large wood burner at the end of the room brings that essential cosy element. The fire and the underfloor heating will naturally make this spacious room toasty warm in those winter months.
The bedroom has a more romantic almost mediterranean feel to it. A beautiful bed with velvet headboard and lots of plump cushions is flanked by some beautiful bedside lamps and terracotta walls. The ensuite bathroom has white brick style tiles in contrast to the wooden floor and a shower over bath arrangement.

The cottage is situated on the edge of a large pine forest near the Alwen reservoir. As a result, miles of cycle lanes and forest tracks are accessible right from your front door. The Alwen reservoir itself is only a five minute walk away. The larger lake of Llyn Brenig is is about thirty minutes by foot or less than five minutes in the car. Here guests can find a modern visitor centre and cafe. You can also hire bikes, boats, go fishing and explore the circular route that surrounds the lake.
The cottage is approximately 30 mins from the famous tourist town of Betws Y Coed and 30 minutes from the more traditional market town of Bala. Betws Y Coed is home to the Swallow Falls and the Fairy Glen as well as the Marin Mountain Biking trail. Bala is where you will find all the watersports on Llyn Tegid including SUP, Kayaking, canoeing and sailing. The National White Water Centre is here too.
The larger castle town of Conwy is also about 30 minutes away as is Surf Snowdonia, a unique inland surfing lagoon near Llanrwst. Foodies might also enjoy popping in on the award winning Rhug Farm Shop or the wonderful Bodnant Food centre.
