Large Self Catering Property in North Wales | The Coach House

X17
Dog FriendlyReal Fire
Bala

The Coach House is a large self catering property a few miles outside Bala and the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. This impressive 8-bedroom house is on quite a posh country estate on the banks of the upper River Dee. The 8 large bedrooms means it can comfortably sleep 17 people in a combination of double and twin rooms.

The first room we have to describe is the kitchen however. This huge space includes a large breakfast table capable of sitting all 16 guests, a seating area with comfy sofas facing onto a real fire as well as a well-equipped kitchen area. Hopefully everybody will take his or her turn in the kitchen bit, but the size of the room and layout makes this a wonderfully sociable space and the real heart of the house.

Next door we have a more formal dining room. A large mahogany dining table sits on a polished hardwood floor and is flanked by the second of three log fires. You’re more likely however, to light the fire in the sitting room after dinner perhaps. Sit on a plush comfortable armchair sipping a small brandy and listening to the crackle of the fire. Warmed on the inside and out whilst ancestors of the estate look down on you from their framed confinement.

During the day this room is transformed. Bathed with sunlight from the floor to ceiling French doors that run down the entire length of the room, the space becomes the vibrant centre of your holiday. These south facing windows look out onto the enclosed and very child friendly lawned area and patio. Perfect for summer BBQ’s.

Finally downstairs we also have a large games room complete with full sized table tennis set and lots of children’s toys. There is also a twin bedroom with wet room.

Two separate staircases lead up to 8 bedrooms in total. Too many to describe individually but they are all lovely. One twin room is a bit smaller than the others. I say small, it’s actually ordinary size but small compared to the rest, so should be reserved for the younger children perhaps. Two of the bedrooms are twin rooms. There are five doubles. Three of the rooms are en-suite, two share a large jack and gill bathroom and there’s a separate family bathroom with large bath.

All the bedrooms are wonderfully appointed. Large windows furnished with sumptuous curtains look out over the inspiring grounds of the estate. The cotton bedclothes are immaculate and once the children go to sleep tranquillity is, of course, ensured.

Location

Outside there’s a wonderfully safe and enclosed lawned area with patio and BBQ. Plenty of parking for cars towards the rear of the property on the gravelled driveway. There’s also a full sized tennis court for the use of the guests and access to the river Dee is also available. Fishing by request.

If you want to leave the grounds of the estate there’s a traditional village pub and separate restaurant within walking distance and the market town of Bala is a short 10 minute drive away. Bala has long been established as a Mecca for adventure activities.

Llyn Tegid or Bala lake is popular with sailors, windsurfers and fishermen alike. White water rafting and kayaking is available at the world renowned Tryweryn white water centre. And the town itself is a wonderful mix of traditional welsh culture and contemporary shops and cafes.

Sitting as it does on the Eastern edge of the National Park, this part of Eryri (Snowdonia) has the natural benefit of being easily accessible from the English road network. Although saying that, costal towns such as Aberdyfi to the West and Snowdon itself to the North West are less than an hours drive in the car.

The Coach House offered our group of 14 friends an ideal venue to celebrate our “Christmas day”, which took place during the last weekend in November. We had plenty of fridge space for food and drink and between the arga and the electric cooker we were able to cook up a feast. It was great that everyone could sit around the dining table, and nobody had to sit on the garden chairs!
The house was arguably too warm, as we also wanted to take advantage of making up the real fire. It really added to our Christmas atmosphere.
The individual bedrooms were roomy and very comfortable, and the only thing that the group noted was that we would have liked a few more showers. That said, the house suited the traditional style baths. If you like places with a bit of personality then we would recommend the Coach House.

What a terrific venue! Stayed at the house from Nov 2nd – 5th 2015, and it was perfect for our annual reunion of old school friends, which we have been enjoying now for the past 25 years. This was the first time that we have “looked after ourselves” and it was ideal – individual rooms for everyone being a real bonus as with advancing years the snoring decibels have reached “significant levels”!
The surrounding areas were beautiful, made even more so by the surprisingly clement weather and the facilities were first class and much appreciated by this group of 70+ year olds. We certainly look forward to a return visit next year. Congratulations and thanks to the proprietors for the facilities provided, the ambience of the house and for their consideration.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at The Coach House ( Nov 21-24). On arrival we entered to a lovely warm, welcoming home. Our group consisted of 19 family members ranging in age from 8 months to 63!!! plus 1 dog. There was plenty of room to spread out and everyone was happy with their rooms. It was so relaxing all weekend and we enjoyed a varied programme of activities – golfing in Bala, mountain biking to Penmachno, walking, 10 pin bowling at Glan Llyn Urdd Centre,a walk and drinks in Bala, hide and seek around the house!!, and a lovely Sunday lunch in the Bryntirion Inn.We met Sarah ,the lovely owner, after arrival and had a lovely chat in Welsh.A fabulous house to stay in for a large group.
A recommendation – take hand towels and tea towels with you as they only provide 1 bath towel each and some are quite small.
Diolch yn fawr Sarah am adael i ni rannu eich ty.

16 of us on a work’s reunion from all over the uk. The coach house ticked all the boxes, was comfortable and welcoming and we all felt at home from the moment we stepped over the threshold. So together with good company, food and wine, it was the perfect place for a large group gathering. And to top it all, we had fantastic weather.

We hope to return one day
