Hengaeau
Property Type: Cottages, Farm Stay, Featured, Harlech, Sleeps 4-5

Another hidden gem nestling among the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park. This two bedroom ground floor cottage is a perfect retreat for people looking to get away from it all.
It’s quite a new build so all the essentials are well taken care of. Efficient central heating, unlimited hot water, a fully fitted kitchen and immaculate décor throughout. The lounge is comfortably furnished and include a very traditional and handsome welsh dresser. We spent a lot of time with the large patio doors thrown open so as to make the most of the view. The cottage looks out onto the northern slopes of Moelfre and the Llawlech mountain range which stretch out towards Barmouth and the Mawddach Estuary. And cow watching is much more fun than people watching.
There’s separate dining area which sits five or more quite comfortably. Next is the kitchen, quite small but it has everything you’d need including a dishwasher and washing machine. There’s a large bathroom with shower over bath. One twin bedroom room and finally, a large family bedroom with double bed and an extra single bed if required. Opening the curtains in this south facing bedroom every morning was one of my favorite bits of the holiday.

Location
I say this about a lot of our cottages. But the location really couldn’t be much better. Hengaeau sits above the pretty little seaside village of Llanfair on the Cambrian coast. You climb up a small lane out of the village before winding your way back down a private driveway to the farm. The nearest beach, Llandanwg, is one of our favorites, with its little rock pools to one side and sandy dunes on the other. The historic castle town of Harlech is about 2 miles to the north. There are three or four pubs in the town as well as a selection of restaurants. There’s also the castle of course and the famous St David’s links golf course.
If you decide to stay at Hengaeau you must also find the time to drive a little further up the lane to Cwm Bychan and the magical lake up there. It’s a beautiful spot and offers some fantastic wild trout fishing. Other popular activities in the area include mountain biking and walking of course.

The cottage was fantastic in an unbeatable location, Mountains behind, sea in the distance, cows in the field opposite – not in “cages” as my inner city son exlaimed. It was excellently well equipt-better than our own house!!!! Roomy with a picture window you could stare out of for hours.
Helen is warm and friendly and the cake on arrival was a lovely touch. WE had a gloriously relaxing few days-just what the Dr Ordered. Many thanks.

Hello Gwion and Louise
We thought Hengaeau was one of your better properties. Really well equipped, warm and dry. This was particularly important since it hardly stopped raining during our visit, until we left for home.! But this is Wales and we love it. Final point — the welcome cake! –a lovely touch.

Hengaeau is an idyllic retreat!! Perfect location if you wish to explore the fabulous surrounding area, even better if you just wish for a peaceful, relaxing break. We recieved a very warm welcome from the lovely owners who were very sweet to my young children who loved the welcome cakes!
The cottage itself has everything you could need during your break & was well maintained, comfortable & clean! We only stayed for four nights this time, during which the weather was perfect everyday enabling us to fully enjoy the fabulous local beaches and the patio at the cottage. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
Loved it, the cottage was great and equipped with everything one needs to a week away from it all. We will be back!

The cottage was brilliant. Amazing location. We loved it, definitely a relaxing break away. The glorious weather helped of course and spent most of our days at the beach, and loved coming back to the lovely views, cup of tea and piece of cake!
We stayed sunday 25th September for 3 nights. Weather was amazing, so I think that helped! For the price, we are very happy after our stay, such a quiet and relaxing location. The cottage is far enough away from the farmhouse to have some privacy and the views are fantastic! We got a fesh cake on arrival, which is a nice touch.
We explored the coast from Barmouth to Abersoch, but found Harlech to be the nicest place and the beach!
You have to see the beach yourself…..
We really loved staying at this cottage in September 2011 and quickly felt at home after we were greeted by Helen who presented us with a tasty homemade cake and a cup of tea.
We spend a lot of our time at the cottage as the weather was not pleasant all of the time, but we did not mind this much as the cottage is spacious, warm, cosy and has fantastic view.
The village is very cute and has the most friendly residents. We would love to come back.
We would like to wish Helen and the Family a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.
