Self Catering near Bennar Beach Dyffryn Ardudwy | Llys Bennar

Luxury Self Catering Accommodation | Llys Bennar

As we pushed past a fragrant camellia and crossed over a little stone bridge to get to the front door, we knew that Llys Bennar, this luxury self catering accommodation near Bennar Beach was going to be a bit special.

The cottage is the largest within a collection of 4 barn conversions. An oak panelled hall way complete with antique chair and expensive looking pictures leads off to a well equipped kitchen which is filled with the mouth-watering smell of freshly baked bread, a much appreciated welcome gift from the owners, Sue and Richard. The kitchen in turn leads to the breakfast room. My photo of the breakfast room doesn’t do it justice perhaps. This nice bright room houses a huge long bench seat facing onto an impressive oak table. Perfect for family meals, board games and colouring in!

Quiet rural location

There’s also a small WC and a boot room come utility next to the kitchen. Ideal for our wellingtons and walking gear. Next door, the games room has a full sized pool table and a handy little docking station for our Ipod. Great fun on a warm evening with the patio doors opened up onto the back garden, drinking a beer and eating peanuts between shots.

The ground floor ensuite bedroom has a super-king bed and would be perfect for grandma and granddad if they can be persuaded to come.

A central stairway leads you to the upstairs lounge. The lounge, once again, is a treasure trove of antique furniture and tasteful décor. Having this room upstairs is fantastic as the views are spectacular. Rolling sand dunes stretch out in front of you and behind them a crystal blue sea and a cloudless sky.

Two bathrooms and three more bedrooms upstairs. A spacious and wonderfully sunny twin room, a smaller room with a set of bunk beds for the children and finally the very impressive master bedroom.

The wonderful Bennar Beach with its Green Coast Award is the obvious attraction when you’re staying at Llys Bennar, and is only a 10 minute walk away. But perhaps because the area is renowned for its beautiful coastline the mountains behind are sometimes overlooked. Luckily maybe as unlike Snowdon itself, an hour to the north, the Rhinog Mountains are ignored by many tourists and remains one of the Britain’s few true wildernesses.

Snowdonia is of course fast becoming Britain’s activity capital. Mountain biking, white water rafting, pony trekking, rock climbing are all available nearby. Whilst Celtic hill forts, religious shrines, mighty medieval castles and revealing industrial remains will entertain the more cerebral. We also found plenty of traditional pubs, charming tearooms serving home made cakes and stylish restaurants.

Great week – no rain, warm days, lovely beach. Visit to Harlech on the train, to Barmouth for shopping and to C.A.T. at Machynlleth all added to a happy holiday. We bathed every day too. Thanks.

We had a super week – enjoyed the wonderful setting and had great fun on Harlech and Barmouth beaches. Thoroughly enjoyed Portmeirion, Ffestiniog Railway (Megan’s first train ride!) and the Rabbit Farm near Criccieth (well worth a visit). The house is great, so comfy – thank you!

Walking near Rhinog FachGorgeous cottage – we all love it here especially the children who don’t want to leave! Had a great week – managed to get the kids (8 and 5yrs) and my father (getting on a bit but v. fit!) up both Cadair Idris and Snowdon – fantastic! Beautiful beach too – we’ll definitely be back one day.

The Zig Zag path, LlanfairA very warm welcome was followed by a most enjoyable stay in home–from–home comfort. We have also discovered the beauty of an area not previously known to us.

View from the top of Snowdon
The beaches were lovely. We went paddling in the sea. I like shell island it is famous for shells and Harlech castle. We went on a train which was the Ffestiniog. We went to Towyn we went crabbing we caught 6 crabs. We are sad we are leaving.

  9. Jane Baldwin, Lincolnshire says:

Lovely, big family home. Three generations comfortably accommodated with grandparents sleeping peacefully downstairs with their own bathroom. Lovely views to the sea with only a bubbling stream as background noise. Stunning beaches with huge sand dunes, great for kite flying. Pub, shop and beaches within easy walking distance, what more do you need?

Just had a fabulous weekend, catching up with friends in a lovely location. Unexpectedly good weather on Friday allowed us to drive along the coast after a detour via Conway and Caernarvon Castle. Wonderful scenery on the way and arrived at the cottage to find freshly baked bread and cakes. The owners left us some winter discount vouchers for Portmeirion, which we visited on Saturday, and saved a lot of money. Finished off our visit with an invigorating walk in Barmouth. Fabulous views from the top. The cottage had plenty of space, a well equipped kitchen, big dining table and comfy lounge. Couldn’t ask for more.

Each year, my husband and I spend a week’s holiday with our four grown up kids without their partners. Llys Bennar was perfect for us- loads of room in a charming house, with even a pool table to help pass wet evenings. Despite the rain, we had a marvellous time exploring a beautiful part of the country and even managed two days of beach games on one of the best beaches I’ve ever seen. The only drawback was how quickly the time passed and how sorry we all were to leave!

  12. Tetlow and Jones families says:

Just spent a lovely Easter break at Llys Bennar. Our second visit and it certainly lived up to our memories. Our requests for extra cots and high chairs for our newest grandchildren were met without a problem, and the fresh home baking left on our arrival was a lovely touch. House is fantastic for 3 generations and all went home relaxed with batteries recharged. Great to have Sky Sports this time.

April 18th-21st 2014. We had a lovely Easter weekend in the cottage. It’s the perfect place for a group of friends to take a short break, the pool table got plenty of use and some lovely meals were rustled up in the kitchen which contrary to a lot of holiday lets I’ve stayed did not lack for equipment.

    In short; highly recommeded.
