Pet Friendly Family Holiday Cottage | Pant-Golau

Pet Friendly Family Holiday Cottage | Pant-Golau

Pant-Golau is Welsh for sunny or bright valley. And it certainly was the day we visited. This newly refurbished pet friendly family holiday cottage is on the end of a charming little row of three cottages in a little hamlet called Pensarn. But the country setting belies what is quite a posh and modern property inside. Chic, I think, would be the right word. There’s a thoroughly modern kitchen-diner with all the facilities you would expect. But character is added by an exposed stone wall and the oak lintels which sit above two large windows. With sea views of course.

Plenty of room in the lounge too. Three huge sofas face onto a traditional cast iron log burner (for the romantically inclined) and quite a large flat screen TV just off to the left (for the not so romantic). And the sense of style continues with large hanging prints complementing the soft furnishings and décor. Sea views again of course. There’s also a ground floor shower room and WC on the ground floor.

Four bedrooms upstairs. Two doubles and two twins, perfect for a large family or two smaller families. Everything’s brand new, so as you’d expect, the beds are comfy and the linen is all clean and crisp. And all the other boxes have been ticked, bed side lamps, large wardrobes, luxurious carpet, tasteful curtains etc. Oh, and the sea views are even better up here.

To the rear of this pet friendly family holiday cottage there’s an elevated back garden complete with decking and BBQ.

Location

As mentioned, Pant-Golau is one of a small collection of houses in Pensarn which is a mile or so to the north of the charming little village of Llanbedr. Just about walking distance to the pub but maybe a car journey if you’re carrying shopping back from the shop. Both pubs in the village serve food. The Victoria Inn has a fantastic beer garden and the ‘Ty Mawr’ has a selection of real ales and a fantastic atmosphere especially when there’s rugby on the TV.

Harlech with its famous castle and 18hole links golf course is five minutes away by car and the larger seaside town of Barmouth is about ten minutes away in the opposite direction. So plenty of other restaurants and shops within easy reach.

This pet friendly family holiday cottage overlooks the Artro river estuary and the famous Shell Island. Fantastic blue flag beaches are dotted all along this coastline but one of our favorites was Llandanwg beach just a mile up the coast. We ordered a pizza from the small café there before sitting on the beach with a glass of chilled white wine and watched the sun dipping down over the mountains of the Llyn peninsula. Idyllic.

The little lane leading to the cottage eventually leads up towards Cwm Nantcol and the lake at Cwm Bychan. So the cottage provides a great base for walking, cycling and fishing. The lake holds brown trout and a fish known locally as “the red bellied char”.

Walking on Harlech BeachWe hardly like to say what a lovely location and cottage we found in Pant-Golau as it will probably mean that when we come to book it again we won’t be able to !
Clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished and decorated throughout, everything we could need for a happy holiday had been provided.

    Thank you

A lovely cottage, very well equiped, clean and comfortable. A little undersold on the website as no mention of the garden, downstairs shower & W.C or off street parking.

Eight of us shared, four adults and four children and it didn’t feel squashed at all. Would love to have stayed longer but it was already booked

  3. Erica, Sheffield says:

Just returned from a week in this beautiful cottage where I stayed with 5 other adults and a 5 year old child. Fantastic location for exploring Barmouth and Harlech. Loved having the shop and pubs within walking distance. Very well equipped for children and loved the bedrooms and bathroom! Did not want to get out of the shower! We did have 3 cars and it was a bit of a squeeze getting all 3 into the drive, but managed it. However, don’t use the neighbours drive to turn round on as she told us off, albeit we only did it once and for about 30 seconds to let a passing car go (it is a single track road). Walks to Shell Island and Nantcol Waterfalls highly recommended from the cottage. Also recommend hiring bikes in Barmouth and riding the Mawddach Estuary trail as this was lovely and there is a nice pub at the end where you can stop off to refuel! For all you walkers out there, if you fancy a change from Snowdon, Cadair Idris was just as spectacular. Had a lovely birthday meal in Harlech at the Plas restaurant. We didn’t book and it was a bank holiday but we still got in and they catered for children too. Reasonably priced set menu and beautiful conservatory and garden overlooking the Harlech coastline. A spectacular week and fantastic weather!

  4. David Witt, Oxford says:

Very comfortable and well-equipped cottage, and “upstairs” garden. Only disadvantage was the loud screech from the hot water supply unless you turned it immediately to maximum flow. Got told off for waking my grandchildren when shaving before 8 am on our first morning! Splendid shower though.

Most exciting days, from my point of view anyway, were the Roman steps up to Bwlch Tyddiad and a trip on the newly-opened Welsh Highland Railway.

Some of the local footpaths marked on the O.S. maps are not as well sign-posted as they should be!

  5. helen heath, stroud says:

very comfortable cottage, with lovely views from the garden. Loud water pipes woke us all when the first one up ran the hot water so no alarm clocks needed.
The beaches nearby were perfect, and the Nantcol waterfalls stunning, especially if you follow the falls to the very top, follow the blue posts.
All in all a very good holiday

  6. gwionllwyd says:

Pant Golau have had the plumbers in and I quote “The noisy hot water pipes have now been silenced, so peaceful lie-ins now available at Pant Golau”

  7. Phil Barrett Oswestry says:

A much needed weekend break. Amazing accomodation and location.

Rock pooling on the beach near Harlech with the dogs was great.

Relaxing evenings with a beer or two in the raised decking and garden.
    Plus 22 degrees in March

  8. Jon, Jen, Maria and Dave, Warrington says:

We had a fab weekend in this lovely cottage! Such a perfect location, peaceful and picturesque. We will definitely be returning.

  9. Benjamin Rolfe says:

Fantastic weekend; clean, comfortable and well eqipped cottage. A great base for walks and sightseeing. Recommend highly the Castle Restaurant & Armoury (Caribbean food). A nice (20 min) walk to the local pubs with v. friendly locals.

  10. Amy Oliver, Winchester says:

What a wonderful house, perfectly located for some stunning walks from the front door, as well as others only a short drive away. The service leading up to the holiday was also excellent with a very informative website. Thank you for letting us stay in this beautiful house!

  11. Sarah, Tony, Irene, Harold & Dylan says:

Fantastic week, beautiful area with so much to do. We enjoyed football and cricket on the beach, visiting Shell Island and collecting hundreds of shells!

Food at Victoria Inn was good as was the beer garden/play area!

Great day out at Llechwedd Slate Caverns, both tours strongly advised. Nice relaxed day on the Bala Railway enjoyed by all.

The cottage was very clean and extremely well stocked, probably better than anywhere we’ve stayed, would be complete with a BBQ.

  12. Alan, Jocelyn and family, Lancaster says:

Wow! We thought of somewhere quiet where we could have an extended family birthday celebration, and found the perfect place for 7 of us plus two little ones.
The house was beautifully decorated and presented – a credit to Kerys (housekeeper) and to the owners. The box of toys, games and children’s DVDs and books were a bonus and went down well with our two young grandchildren when the weather turned wet. A very child friendly house.
The area is undoubtedly beautiful and well used by visitors, but before the weather closed in we managed to find a couple of places for good walking without people (but these will have to remain our secret).
The Victoria in Llanbedr proved very friendly with a lovely evening walk down the very narrow road – the food is good and if the weather is fine there is a small play area – there is a bigger public one just on the other side of the bridge, but just watch out for the river – can become dangerous for unattended youngsters very quickly.
We loved it and will certainly have it on our map of places to revisit, assuming that this and other positive reviews don’t fill it up!

  13. Helen, Barry, Ben, Josie, Catherine, Andy & Joseph says:

Lovely holiday home for a family get together. Well stocked house & our youngest enjoyed playing with some new toys. Despite the inclement weather we enjoyed the local countryside. A visit to Portmeirion was particularly enjoyed.

Thank you for the welcome tray & letting us stay in your lovely home.

  14. B and Family says:

We came for our yearly family tribe holiday – and we had a great time! The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and has had everything we could possibly need – lovely and clean!! and the location is to die for – the views from almost all rooms are stunning and all the furniture and finishings are quality and tastefully done.

Thanks so much for a week in country heaven.

  15. Shannon, Wayne, Riley, Lyla, Steve, Elena, Stella & Summer says:

We visited the cottage with our friends from America for a long weekend with our four young kids (between us). The cottage was well equipped & comfortable…..we loved the toy box & books! The cottage is in a great location to explore the area, we had a nice visit to Criccieth Castle & Portmeirion & a wonderful trip on the train to Mount Snowdon. We’re hoping to visit Harlech Castle & Shell Island before heading home today. Would definitely love to come back & explore more of the beautiful area!

The agent was a huge help when we called after getting a flat tyre on the way here. Directed us to a great shop (Derek’s Tyes) closeby, which really saved the days. Thanks!!

  16. Dan Sarah Sophie Holly & Jess says:

We had a fantastic week away earlier this autumn and what a little gem the cottage is!

Wonderfully placed and peaceful it was the perfect base for getting out for some walks, photography at the coast and waterfalls and plenty to keep the little ones amused….Highly Recommended

  17. Shaun and Saskia, Worcestershire says:

Stayed here in April 2012. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and exploring the local area. Very impressed – perfect for our family reunion!

  18. Yvonne & Simon Walters says:

We stayed here in May 2013 with relatives from South Africa, perfect place to stay and everything we needed was available, very atmospheric helped by the log burner! Regulars to the area for many years Pant-Golau was one of the nicest places we have stayed.

    Highly Recommended to our friends….

  19. Beth Howell, Coventry says:

We have just returned from a lovely week staying at Pant-Golau. I didn’t get much time to write in their guestbook at the cottage, so would like to say that it was an excellent place to stay for the following reasons:

    1. Huge Toy box of toys for our toddler, draw full of games and good selection of books to suit various ages (ideal if you get less than perfect beach weather) DVD player, Digi Box and Wifi all very much appreciated (espectially by the teenager in out party)

    2. Great location! Happily we only had 2 rainy days (better than forecast-ed) and were able to spend an afternoon of one of them at the charming play farm just down the road ( which our 2 year old loved). The sheep, Pigmy goats and rabbits could all be fed inside and there was an excellent soft play area with air cannons to boot. On out sunny days the cottage was well placed for use to visit the beaches and other attractions of Barmouth, Portmadoch, Lllandanoch (quite beach) and Harlech -Cemlyn is a great tea room (Sorry for the poor spellings)

    3. House was immaculate and big enough for 7 of us with toddler. It was also very well equipped with plenty of plates, cooking utensils two cots and the washing machine and dishwasher was very handy. (dishwasher tablets were provided but not washing detergent mind)

    4. The views!! The photo’s do not do justice to the views, especially from the double bedrooms, which had a great panoramic of the farms, fields and coast – tres picturesque

    5. The bath – little things like having a biggish bath was a treat for me (currently pregnant) and my toddler who imagined it was a swimming pool

    6. Tea and Coffee and milk – again a little thing but I always appreciate the thought of providing a few biscuits, some tea bags and some milk to have after the journey.

All in all, very nice holiday and the cottage will go on our favorite list

    Beth

    Lovely, lovely cottage.

Fantastic location, along with fantastic views.

There is a lovely village, only 20 minutes walk along a lovely country lane srrounded by beautiful woodland. The near by beach was very pictureque.

Will definately like to say there agin in the future.

  21. Doreen Mcginty Bury says:

We had a great time at this lovely cottage .It has everything you need for a comfortable stay . The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty of places to visit the beaches are great .Altogether a great holiday

  22. Bryan & Janet Shrubb, Essex says:

Six adults and two teenage boys. We all enjoyed our stay very much and found that the house was well equiped and comfortable. The fact that we didn’t bring any towels caused us a bit of a problem. It may be worthwhile mentioning that they are not provided. Other than that we all had a happy time. The scenery is absolutely staggering and there are lots of interesting places to visit. The indian restaurant in Harlech ( one minute from the castle entrance ) is highly recommended and not expensive. Book in advance and forget your credit card – they like cash only. Of the two restaurants in the village we prefer The Victoria Inn . Staff very friendly – food good . We found the other very noisy , so we didn’t stay to eat.
    Best regards, Bryan Shrubb

  23. Pant Golau says:

We found Pont Golau to be a really lovely cottage, much bigger than we thought, lots of space, very comfortable and well equipped; great views from the raised decking – a great place to enjoy your morning cuppa!

  24. Charlie, West Mids says:

We found Pont Golau to be a really charming, comfortable and spacious cottage, well equipped, with great views from the raised decking area – a great place to enjoy your morning cuppa!
