SURF SNOWDONIA’S MUD RUN CHALLENGE EVENT IS BACK FOR ITS SECOND YEAR!

SURF SNOWDONIA’S MUD RUN CHALLENGE EVENT IS BACK FOR ITS SECOND YEAR!

Posted by on Feb 27, 2018 in Blog | 0 comments

If you’re a fan of obstacle course racing – now one of the UK’s fastest growing sports – then Waves, Mud and Mountains at Surf Snowdonia might be just what you are looking for. The mud run challenge is back in North Wales for its second year, and organisers promise it is going to be an event longer, harder and muddier than before! It takes place at world-first inland surf lagoon, Surf Snowdonia, on Saturday 24th March 2018. Competitors taking part in the 10k Waves, Mud and Mountains course can expect to find themselves pitted against natural and man-made obstacles, including over-water agility tests, a mud-based assault course, ice bath and barrel carry. They will also take on the might of Surf Snowdonia’s wave pool – the biggest in Europe – by running through its powerful man-made waves. Surf Snowdonia says it is the equivalent of pushing against a colossal 6 million gallons of water over a distance of 300 metres! The challenge concludes with a run up the notoriously steep Dolgarrog Water Pipe incline; a part of the course called the ‘stairway to hell’. Competitors will enjoy sweeping views of the Conwy Valley as they make their descent back to the finish line at Surf Snowdonia. Food, drink and entertainment is promised for the rest of the day in Surf Snowdonia’s water-side bar. The race is over 18s only, and entry starts at £35 per person, though it’s prices are set to rise incrementally so best to book your place sooner rather than later. You can do that at surfsnowdonia.com. If you’re tempted by the idea of making a break of it (let’s face it, you will probably need a few days off to recover post race) then you should check out our selection of cottages nearby: DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES CONWY, DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES BETWS Y COED. You might also want to take a look at our cottages with hot tubs – a great way to soothe your post-event aching muscles! DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES HOT TUBS. A world-first inland surf lagoon, Surf Snowdonia opened in 2015 and its guaranteed man-made waves have seen it attract big name surfers...

TOP 5 RIVERS TO EXPLORE IN NORTH WALES

Posted by on Feb 13, 2018 in Blog | 0 comments

Here in North Wales our mountains and lakes are known throughout the world but it is the rivers that might be new to many. To give you an idea of what’s on offer, here are the Top 5 Rivers To Explore In North Wales…   AFON GLASLYN The Glaslyn river flows through the village of Beddgelert, one of the most beautiful villages in Snowdonia. The walk along the river is truly stunning, taking you past Gelerts Grave and into the village itself where you will find traditional craft shops, cafes and of course the famous Glaslyn Ices where they offer some of the best ice-cream in Snowdonia. A mile south of Beddgelert in Nantmor is the Aberglaslyn Pass, a narrow gorge in the river known for its outstanding beauty.   AFON TYWERWYN The National Whitewater Centre is based on the River Tywerwyn. As the rapids are damn controlled, you can be ensured of having consistent water flow and rapids throughout the year which is why the centre is heralded as the best place in the UK to do Whitewater rafting. Canoeing, Kayaking are also very popular along here as well as SUP and sailing as the river flows into Llyn Tegid, the largest lake in Wales.   AFON DWYRYD There is great salmon, brown trout and grayling fishing on the Afon Dwyryd. As well as the numerous riversides you are able to fish from, Llyn Tegid and Llyn Brenin are also recommended. Please remember that licenses are required to fish on the rivers and lakes. As well as fishing, gorge walking and canyoning are also done in this river in Maentwrog, nr Porthmadog. There is great waterfall here too.   AFON CONWY and LUGWY The Swallow Falls is the largest, continous waterfall in Wales and is certainly a sight to behold. Set in the town of Betws Y Coed, the falls are easy to access and can either be been seen just on their own or as part of a larger walk in and around Gwydir Forest.
