There aren’t many places to rival an Elizabethan manor in the wilds of Snowdonia. Join the likes of Charles II and Welsh revolutionary Owain Glyndwr and escape to the luxurious 7-bedroom historic Cors-y-Gedol Hall, near Llanbedr in north-west Wales.

Cors-y-Gedol Hall is the latest addition the Dioni family. Sleeping up to 14 with prices starting from just £13 per head per night (based on full occupancy), the property offers an experience no modern holiday rental can match for history or sense of grandeur.

A mile long oak lined driveway leads us up from the coast road to the hall with its magnificent granite gateway. Heavy oak doors, imposing fireplaces, rare antiquities, a grand piano, library and oak panelled walls are set alongside modern day additions of flat screen TVs and WIFI.

The dining room is grand with a central dining table comfortably seating all 14 guests and the traditional style kitchen, the one you always wanted is situated next door. A majestic central stairway adorned with intricate wooden carvings leads to the seven bedrooms and four bathrooms; two of which still have their original Victorian bathtub. Each bedroom offers incredibly tall ceilings, big comfortable beds and huge windows overlooking the surrounding lawns and the countryside beyond.

The formal gardens surrounding the hall are equally impressive. The gatehouse, designed by the famed architect Inigo Jones, stands guard over a huge expanse of lawn complete with private lake. Beyond the lake the oak woodland has been designated as a site of specific scientific interest due to its rare flora and fauna.

Cors-y-Gedol Hall is unique and a true historic gem. It has been the backdrop for centuries of intrigue and plots, but it is now re imagined for the modern day without losing any of its character. If you are in search of something a little different from the norm, then you certainly would not be disappointed. It’s not everyday you get the opportunity to live like a lord or lady, but you can certainly do that here, even if it is only for a weekend!
