So 2018 is here and no doubt the subject of a fitness challenge has come up on more than one occasion over the last few days! Snowdonia is home to some of the best organised marathons, triathlons, swims and walks, giving a very varied offer ensuring that there is something for everyone. To give you some inspiration, here are our top 10 challenges to help with getting fit Snowdonia style…



4th March
Moving away from the epic mountainous runs that the area is known for, the Anglesey Half Marathon is a ‘quick’ run with an undulating course starting from the Menai Suspension bridge. With the stunning Snowdonia mountain range to look at while you run around Anglesey, it is said to be a great course to do in order to get you run ready for a full marathon.



24th March
Following a successful first year, Surf Snowdonia’s Waves, Mud and Mountains is back for its second year. A tough 5km circuit testing your stamina and mental strength. A four stage set-up will see you run through the waves, tackle mud and over-water obstacles and take on the mountains with a gruelling uphill run to the finish line.



25th March
Listed as one of the most stunning events on the UK triathlon calendar, it’s a great introduction to the world of triathlons. A 400m swim in the pool, 21 km bike ride and a 6km run with a finale of running up the stairs to the castle. It will test your athletic abilities, but the distances make it a bit more accessible than most.



19th and 20th May
The ultimate in triathlons. A 1,400m swim in Llyn Padarn followed by a 71 km bike ride and a 17 km run across the Snowdonia mountains. It’s extreme and will test you to your limits. It’s not for the faint hearted!!!



2nd June | 30th June | 22nd Sept
This is a series of 3 runs that take place over the summer months resulting in a king or queen of the crown. A 10k run, followed by a sprint Triathlon and finishing with a half marathon; all taking place in Abersoch on the beautiful Llyn Peninsula. There are lots of family orientated smaller runs during the events including a 1km beach sprint.



29th June – 1st July
In 2017, Breese Adventures launched this new walking challenge which covers 100km over three days. Starting from Betws Y coed each morning, you are taken on a guided walk throughout the Snowdonia region. A test of mental and physical resilience and a journey of self-discovery sums it up nicely.

29th July
The only swimming event in the Snowdonia calender and what a beautiful swim it is. A 1.5-mile swim across the Llynnau Mymbyr set in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park in Capel Curig. A half-mile swim is also available if you are looking to ease yourself into open water swimming.



19th August
A cycling event covering 107km around the coast of Anglesey; said to be one of the most stunning coast lines in the UK. There are a series of options available if you are not up for the full 107km, including a family bike ride of 3.5 miles.



4th November
Based at the Coed Y Brenin Forest, this is cross of mountain biking and trail running at its best. A 9 km trail run, followed by a 15km mountain bike trail all finished off with a second 5km trail run. The scenery is spectacular, there are hard inclines, but the descent makes them worth it. A very unique and rewarding challenge to set yourself.

WELSH 3000

Can be done anytime, but summer would be best.
To complete the Welsh 3000s Challenge you are required to walk (or run!) the 24 miles that will take you to the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000 ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport. If you fancy a trip of a life time, I think this will certainly that box!
