Are you looking for some family-friendly adventures for your next holiday in North Wales? These come highly recommended.
What is the most important aspect of a family holiday?
Yes, it’s a time to relax with our loved ones and break out of our usual routines – the time and space to actually enjoy one another’s company. Lazy mornings and lie ins, slightly later bedtimes… It’s always wonderful to be able to take your foot off the gas and relax a little bit.
But perhaps just as important as the change in pace is the opportunity to share new experiences with your gang and create some extra-special memories together.
Enjoying a little adventure with our nearest and dearest has many benefits. It helps to strengthen the family bond, build confidence in our children (and sometimes in the grown ups too), and – well – it’s also just great fun! These are the stories we will take home with us and re-live over the dinner table. The anecdotes we will tell our friends.
In this list, we have gathered together our top 5 family-friendly adventures which are right here on our doorstep in North Wales. Accessible for a wide age range, they are just as fun whether you are 5 or 50.
Welcome to our top 5 family-friendly adventures for your next holiday in North Wales:
A fantastically fun and exhilarating activity which will challenge everyone in the family. All sessions are fully supervised by an expert instructor. Perfect for beginner climbers of all ages. Beacon Climbing is in Caernarfon. Age 5+, from £13 per person.
Experience the thrill of caving in a man-made system of caves and tunnels. This artificial caving complex – part of Adventure Parc Snowdonia’s brand-new indoor Adrenaline Indoors facility – is one of the longest in the world, at over 100 metres. Expect to squeeze, clamber and slide your way round the course, navigating tight corners, ball pools, squeeze chambers and narrow passages as you go. You’ll find Adventure Parc Snowdonia in the village of Dolgarrog, Conwy Valley. Age 5+, from £12 per person.
Take a powerboat trip out past medieval castles and shipwrecks to Puffin Island, just off the coast of Anglesey. This uninhabited Island is home to the largest nesting cormorant population in the UK and, of course, the famous puffins (seasonal visitors, usually from mid-May until August). You’ll get right up close to the shoreline to watch the wildlife, see the massive colony of seals and experience a bird-spotting bonanza. Departs from Rib Ride near Menai Bridge, Anglesey. Age 4+, £35 adult, £25 child.
A family sea kayaking taster session is a great way to get active and try a new adventure sport. These sessions are delivered by expert instructors at BActive – they will provide a fun opportunity to learn a new skill whilst exploring the fabulous Anglesey coast. It’s a great family adventure. No previous experience is necessary, all equipment is provided. BActive is at Rhoscolyn, on Anglesey. Age 8+, £45 adult, £28 child.
This is possibly the ultimate timeless family adventure – can you really beat a ride through the magnificent Snowdonia mountains on a steam train? Check in with Ffestrail for historic steam engines which will gently huff and puff you through the beautiful Snowdonia landscapes.
