Kick Off New Year By Signing Up To A Snowdonia Fitness Challenge

It’s January and there will be plenty of you out there that having over done it over the festive season, are looking to get back into shape whilst also proclaiming to actually finishing ‘dry January’ this year!

If you fall into this category, then one of the best things you can do is to kick off the new year by signing up to a Snowdonia fitness challenge – it gets you focused and the routine of training will help get you to the end of dry January! Having something to focus on with routine does wonders for your perseverance and as you get fitter and stronger physically, your mental strength tends to follow suit…

In 2019, Snowdonia was voted as the most beautiful National Park in Europe; its stunning mountains, lakes and rivers provide amazing terrain for you to complete your fitness challenges that will also, quite literally take your breath away!

As there are so many events on offer, we have whittled them down for you, catering for lots of different levels, so fret not if doing an Ironman wasn’t on your bucket list!

The 6th Trail | 28th March 2020

Situated at the famous Portmeirion Village, the 6th Trail is named after the Cult 1960’s programme, The Prisoner. A 6km run through the village, along the beach and through the woods makes it a truly special place to compete. A great day out and very much centred around family.

The World’s Steepest Street Run | 04th April 2020

To celebrate the newly awarded title of ‘The Steepest Street In the World’, Always Aim High Events have created a 5km run in the town of Harlech. This run will take place the day before the usual Harlech Triathlon, which has become a regular in the towns calendar of events. Not for the faint hearted – the road has an incline of 37.5°.

Abersoch 10K | 30th May 2020

Part of the Abersoch Triple Crown, the Abersoch 10k is a really popular event held over Whitt weekend. Set in the very popular seaside town of Abersoch, it starts in the village and winds its way back onto main beach for the finale. There is also a 3km run for the juniors on the day.

Snowdon 24 |  11th-12th July 2020

New for 2020, this race is for the more experienced athletes out there! The challenge is to run up and down Snowdon as many times as you can in 24 hours. Yes you read that correctly!  You can enter as an individual or as part of a team. The route is up the Llanberis Path and measured at a 15km out and back route.

Snowdonia Sunrise Challenge |  16th August 2020

Climbing up Snowdon is on many people’s bucket list and if you are looking for a challenge but not inspired by running, cycling or swimming, then this might be just up your street. Breese Adventures lead a guided walk, leaving in the early hours to ascend the Llanberis path to reach the summit for Sunrise. Truly magical.

Snowman Aqua Sphere Swim | 1st August 2020

Open water swimming at its best with races ranging from 1000m, 2000m and 2.4 miles. Set in the beautiful Llynnau Mymbyr lake which is situated in the heart of the Snowdonia Mountains, it is a stunning place to open water swim. These are always very popular, so make sure you get your entry in quick smart.

Salomon Trail Marathon | 20th June 2020

Heralded as one of Wales’ finest trail circuits, there is a full and half marathon. Running through the Coed Y Brenin Forest, the scenery is truly spectacular and they are said to be some of the best running trails the UK has to offer. Lots to do on site for those with supporters and spectators in tow including a cafe, walking trails and mountain biking.

Trail Betws | 28th November 2020

Including a half marathon, 10K and 5K, this is a beautiful trail run set in the popular Snowdonia town of Betws Y Coed and the nearby forest of Gwydir – this is the heart of Snowdonia. The race itself is challenging due to the variant of terrain, but it’s very popular for lots of age groups and usually the last race of the season.
