Shop local is a subject close to our hearts. We have lots of fantastic local shops and incredible brands to offer. Their unique product mixes makes the experience of ‘shop local’; even more special; I LOVE walking around with a bunch of shopping bags in my hands and stopping off for a cup of coffee (and cake) in between. Come Christmas time with all the lights and trees, it doesn’t get much better – with that in mind, here is our guide to shop local for Christmas in Snowdonia …
Pieces For Places | Barmouth
They have two shops; the larger one is more homeware and furniture based, selling larger items and the smaller shop down the road is more gift orientated. Both are amazing and they offer really lovely things. It is the sort of place you want to buy everything. The main shop has some really great homeware pieces which are always a winner and the smaller shop is perfect if you are looking to buy for someone who has everything.
Cwt Tatws | Tudweiliog
Set on the cliff tops off Tudweiliog beach, the location of this shop it is quite simply stunning and the product mix is just as good. Homeware, accessories, women and kids fashion, and beauty – there is plenty of choice, most of which are exclusive to the area. There is also a cafe with homemade fare and throughout the year they hold some great courses eg flower arranging with S4C’s Sioned Rowlands.
Lavender House | Abersoch
Lavender house is a huge shop on the outskirts of Abersoch and is the place to go to stock up on your Christmas decorations – they have a room dedicated to them. So if you need some inspiration to get into the Christmas spirit, then this is the place to go. They also offer, ladies fashion, homeware and gifts.
Anna Davies | Betws Y Coed
This shop is an institution of Betws Y Coed and it is hard to miss on the high street. Selling a wide range of clothes for men, women and children, it is a great place to go if you are looking for some better known brands that are not that easy to get in the area eg Barbour and Joules as well as great sheepskin items like gloves and hats. They have a good selection of gifts and at Christmas, you’ll certainly be able to pick up some great things for everyone in the family.
Drew Pritchard | Conwy
If you are a fan of Salvage Hunters, then going to the mothership is always a great experience to see where it all gets taken to and restored to its former glory. Whilst they have a lot of large pieces for sale, you can also pick up a few unusual pieces from the showroom where they try to source as many local brands as possible.
Cole and Co | Beaumaris
Set in the old post office of Beaumaris, Cole and Co is a luxury Welsh lifestyle brand making their own soaps, candles, room diffusers shampoo bars and shower gels. Presented in great packaging and handmade in Wales, they have wonderful scents. The shop is a sensory delight as you walk in with all those fragrances filling the room – the new Lan Y Mor, which means Shore in Welsh is a perfect representation for where the brand began on the island of Anglesey.
Medi | Dolgellau
Located at the end of the high street, Medi is a lovely little gift shop that specialises in Welsh gifts. Here you will find lovely welsh anecdote mugs and signs along with some cute pieces of jewellery. It is the main stockist of Annie Sloane paints in the area and so if you have any up-cyclers on you list to buy for, then this is a great place to visit for some inspiration.
Portmeirion | Porthmadog
The high street in Porthmadog has three gift shops owned by Portmeirion and they all offer something different. Everything from kitchenware, lovely accessories and homeware, they offer lots of beautiful things that you just want to buy. They also stock their famous Portmeirion plate service along with the more recent additions with collaborations with Sophie Conran.
