Two Bedroom Seaside Holiday Cottage | Cornel-Glyd

“We were over the moon with our stay at Cornel Glyd. The cottage was beautifully presented, well equipped, and although in a group setting we felt secluded and not overlooked. The short distance to the beach was perfect for our dogs, who enjoyed their holiday as much as we did. We hope as dog owners we gave a good account of ourselves also, and that we would be welcome to return to this holiday venue in the future.” – Karen Anderson, Elan Valley

Two Bedroom Seaside Holiday Cottage

We came here with our two teenage boys last year and we are on the verge of booking again. We had such a nice time; we thought it was only fair that we share our experience you and some of the activities we got up to that made our stay so special.

We were looking for somewhere to stay over the summer that was really close to nature and with this cottage being set so close to the sea side but still within the Snowdonia National Park it seemed like the right choice for us. The cottage was very up to date and stylish with open living space. The tall ceilings made the space feel so much bigger but still warm and cosy with the under floor heating. The decor was very clean and light and the wooden beams retained the barns character, which can so easily be lost in modernised buildings. Our first evening was very comfortable and we settled in just fine. Having had a long journey we really just wanted to take it easy that evening and to be honest, just enjoy the lovely little cottage we were staying in.

Knowing we were staying near a beach, our two boys had to bring their surfing gear along, so we headed to Barmouth beach on our second day at the cottage. I knew that Barmouth was a great place for surfing ‘beginners’ so I was more than happy to let they boys do their own thing while my husband and I sat and watched on a blanket on the warm sand.

Barmouth beach was so big that there so much space for everyone despite it being such a lovely and warm day in a seaside town. It was so nice to see such a vibrant promenade with plenty of kiosks and shops that we could grab lunch without having to walk too far. Once the boys had come back on dry land and got changed, we had a stroll through the town, where there we plenty of gift, confectionary and clothing shops. We actually bought a few sticks of rock to bring home for family and friends. In the afternoon we took a walk along the Barmouth Bridge to we could make the most of such wonderful scenery and take some photographs before stopping off for refreshments at pub close to the waterfront.

As our main family activity we wanted to climb Cader Idris together. With our fitness not being as great as it used to be, we though Cader Idris would go a bit easier on us, compared to the higher mount Snowdon. We took the Minffordd route up which meant that we were able to see more of the dramatic scenery that we came for although it was steeper than another possible route. The panoramic view from the summit was outstanding and well worth the trip up. As we made an early start, we reached the summit just before midday and were back down again by 3pm. With the rest of the afternoon left, we visited Dolgellau to have some refreshments and have a look around. We found this little historic working town to be full of character. The small ‘boutique’ style shops were very charming and it was easy to find something original and unique unlike what you would normally find on the high street. It was such a nice feeling to come back to the cottage that night and relax in such a wonderful environment.

As we were still sore from the long walk up Cader Idris, we spent our final day stretching our legs around Talybont, walking to the local beach. We had such a wonderful stay and it was so lovely being so close by the water. We didn’t expect the weather to be so nice during our stay either. I just hope it’s as nice when we come back next year.
