Snowdonia Style Adventure | Stand Up Paddleboarding
Stand Up Paddleboarding is the fastest growing water sport in the world and in all honesty it’s easy to see why. For a start it’s really simple to do (you can be up and going within 5 mins), it’s great to do as a family as it’s geared towards all ages and finally, whether you do it for 30 mins or a 2 hours, you will be sure to have loved the experienced.
It’s like a HUGE surf board, both much wider and much longer making it very buoyant in the water. You stand on the centre of the board and with a long paddle, you paddle and it’s about as simple as that! If you haven’t been working on your core recently you might find it a bit wobbly at first, but if you start out on your knees, get used to the feeling, you will be up and away in no time at all.
WHERE TO GO:
Snowdonia is a fabulous place to SUP as you have so many different environments in which to try the sport. From the sea, the river’s, the estuary’s to the lakes, they all offer a different experience and beautiful views; all of which are incredible and it’s hard to say which is the best.
If you have your own board, I would give the lakes a go as they are slightly more unique to Snowdonia itself and the back drops are quite simply stunning. But if you don’t have your own equipment and want to give it SUP’ing a go, then these are the people we suggest you go to:
Imagine taking in the Barmouth estuary by paddling down it. SUP Barmouth cater for all ages and abilities and as they are associate to the Yacht club, they offer changing facilities too.
SUP NORTH WALES
These guys are based by Colwyn Bay Watersports Centre. A great bay to learn to SUP on and if it too choppy out there, they have access to the lake at Parc Eirias.
ACTIVITY NORTH WALES
These guys take you out on Llyn Tegid and so if you want to give the lakes a go, you should go to them. Its beautiful and the water is naturally a little calmer than in the sea.
Not necessarily the most picturesque place to do it but is Glasfryn Parc is fab. They have so many different activities on offer that if you have a large group, there will be something for everyone to do if not everyone wants to SUP.
