The award-winning Surf Snowdonia is set to re-launch this Easter with a whole bucketload of exciting new adventures and a brand-new name.
Not content with being home to a show-stopper inland surf lagoon (and it really is a spectacular sight – have you been yet?), the flagship adventure destination in the Conwy Valley has unveiled an exciting new offer and new name for 2019. Adventure Parc Snowdonia is set to launch at the end of April.
We caught up with MD Andy Ainscough to find out more.
We love Surf Snowdonia! Why the name change?
From the end of April 2019, we’re launching a new range of exciting adventures to complement our inland surf lagoon. Our guests will be able to enjoy a more diverse range of high-quality, nature-inspired activities, including weather-proof indoor thrills as well as a lot of fresh-air fun. We reckon our new name captures the scale of our new offer.
Sounds great – can you tell us a little more?
We’ve brought together some of our favourite activities and challenges to create a real hub of adventure here in North Wales. Our magnificent inland surf lagoon remains at the heart of what we do, but from this season onwards we’re going to be offering a lot more besides. We’re pretty excited.
Don’t tease us with the headlines, give us some detail!
From the end of April, we’ll be launching our new adventure concierge service. It will help our guests to explore exciting instructor-led activities like gorge walking, abseiling, SUP safaris and coasteering. There will be on-site mountain bike hire too – perfect for family groups who’d like to explore the beautiful Gwydir Mawr / Marin Trail which is close by. And of course, our beautiful inland waves will be rolling just as before, with expert tuition available at our surf academy.
And there’s more coming in time for the summer holidays?
There certainly is. From July we’ll be launching Adrenaline Indoors, a nature-inspired high-thrills family adventure experience. It’s a weather-proof facility which will feature artificial caving, climbing walls, extreme slides, via ferrata, a multi-level aerial assault course and parkour ninja trail. There will be freefall jumps, and you can even finish with a zip line over the surf lagoon if you want to. There will also be a separate soft play zone for younger visitors.
How does inland surfing even work?
Well that would be telling! But as it’s you… The wavefoil which produces the wave is a little bit like an underwater snowplough. It moves up and down the centre of the lagoon on tracks, pushing the water up and out to create a powerful wave. The really clever bit is in the design of the lagoon bed: the hydrodynamics mean that we simultaneously generate advanced, intermediate and beginner waves. The water is fairly shallow and the waves are consistent and regular – they roll every 90 seconds. It means you can progress your skills as a surfer pretty quickly.
Can anybody surf?
In terms of ability, yes, absolutely – you can surf from age 5+. We cater for absolute beginners right through to world-class pros. Get yourself down here!
