A Unique Holiday Cottage in an Idyllic Location | Beudy-Mach

Beudy-Mach is a unique holiday cottage in an idyllic location high above the Dovey Valley in Southern Eryri (Snowdonia). This quirky carbon neutral property provides self-catering accommodation for up to 7 people in the most wonderful rural setting.

A lonely farm road leads guests up through fields of grazing sheep to this distinctive converted barn. Entering through the thick double glazed doors you are greeted by a wonderful open space that houses the kitchen diner. High vaulted ceilings sit above a luxurious oak floor. A reclaimed dining table and chairs sit proudly in the middle of the space whilst to the side, a rustic kitchen backs onto the original and exposed stonewall of the barn. A modern gas cooker is included as well as all the other crockery and utensils that you might need. But it’s fair to say that this cottage does not have the wealth of appliances that some of our other more modern cottages have. It’s all about character and sense of space in Beudy-Mach.

Opposite the entrance another double glazed door leads out onto a magnificent veranda. From this elevated position guests can look across to Cader Idris on the far side of the valley and then down over Machynlleth towards Aberdovey itself.

Back inside, a mezzanine floor splits the other end of the barn. The ground floor is reserved for the seating area. A traditional log burner commands centre stage surrounded by distinctive and carefully selected furniture and fixtures. A staircase near the front door leads us above. A wrought iron bed stands on more oak flooring and yet more funky furniture creates another spectacular space. With the curtains thrown open guests can look down onto the kitchen area and demand coffee and toast.

Back through the kitchen we enter the eastern end of the barn. Three bedrooms here altogether. There is one smaller child’s room with a single bed plus and additional foldaway bed if required. Next door accommodates a larger double bed. There is also a small shower room in this part of the barn and a larger bathroom with wc and sunken bath. A spiral staircase leads us to the fourth and last bedroom. Another comfortable iron king size bed sits under the slanted roof of the barn. Lots more individual ornaments and fixtures to enjoy in all the bedrooms.

Location

Anyone familiar with this part of southern Eryri (Snowdonia) will know how spectacular the landscape is in this area. ‘A walkers paradise’ is the standard phrase reeled out, but it’s undoubtedly true in this instance. Less crowded than the slopes of Snowdon, the mountains in this part of the national park provide a real opportunity to explore the true wilderness of Wales.

A short 10 minute drive will take you into the more populated town of Machynlleth. Steeped in welsh history the town most famous resident was Owain Glyndwr, the heroic welsh rebel of medieval times. The town hosts a farmers market every Wednesday and is home to some delightful shops cafes and pubs.

Corris, another nearby village, has the well known ‘Centre for Alternative Technology’ as well as a small craft village and ‘King Arthurs Labyrinth’, an underground tour certain to capture a child’s imagination. The popular seaside towns of Aberdyfi and Tywyn are a short drive to the south west. Bala, to the east, is famous for its fishing and whitewater rafting and the world renowned mountain biking trails of Coed Y Brenin are about 30 minutes to the north.

A soulful and idyllic retreat nestled amidst nature’s embrace. Beudy-Mach offers serenity and tranquility, with breathtaking views and a sense of utter seclusion. The cozy interior exudes rustic charm, complete with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Whether lounging by the crackling fireplace or stargazing from the terrace, every moment was a cherished memory in the making. Looking forward to our next stay

We had a wonderful week at Beudy-Mach. It’s so peaceful with wonderful views and walks straight from the door. It’s very stylish inside in wonderful contrast to the outside. We had no problem with the solar powered electricity and after the initial panic everyone enjoyed the lack of Internet.

The view was great but the barn conversion is terribly maintained. Cooker door won’t stay closed . Log burner in living room leaking & broken . Everything was old ,dirty or broken & full of smelly grease

Beudy-Mach provides a perfectly secluded holiday retreat that you don’t want to leave! The accommodation is located up a track that is very steep at times, but once you reach the top, it does not disappoint. The views are breathtaking everywhere you look. The cottage itself very comfortably sleeps 8 and also provides a cot and highchair for babies. The kitchen has all the essentials. We got a supermarket delivery of food (we had to meet them in the lay-by on the main road). It is worth noting that the fridge is very small. The immediate local area provides idyllic walks and of course there is Snowdonia national park to explore as well as beaches all within 30mins. We would return in a flash!

Beudy Mach is an awesome holiday rental . Set in the most secluded rural location , my children adore the quiet, the freedom to run around and get dirty and the gorgeous cabin . Inside has everything you need to experience friendly life . It’s comfy clean and beautiful .comfy beds , fab log burners , mismatched plates etc all adds to the feeling of getting back to nature . Watching the clouds from the rope swing tied to the tree is a fav pastime . Thank you

Don’t remember how many times we stayed now at this beautiful location … but always come back with great pleasure. This time however it was even better with the eletic power, no interruptions. And as the weather turned into summerly, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about!

A wonderful retreat with beautiful views of the valley. Comfy and clean, and that bath with the window looking out was perfect.

Had some difficulty getting out when it snowed but the owner Dafydd was incredibly helpful and understanding.

We would definitely recommend this holiday home, especially for those wishing to get away from it all.
