Breathtaking views across Cardigan Bay and the mountains of North Wales

Breathtaking views across Cardigan Bay | Hen-Feudy

Location is everything of course and it doesn’t get much better than this. Hen-Feudy is a single story barn conversion in the village of Dyffryn Ardudwy half way between Harlech and Barmouth on the Cambrian coast road. In a slightly elevated position on the outskirts of the village the cottage commands breathtaking views across Cardigan Bay and the mountains of North Wales.

Holiday Cottages North Wales Log Fire

The cottage has a lovely patio area as well as big mature gardens facing out over the coastline. But large glass paneled oak doors in both the kitchen dinner and the lounge ensures that the view can be enjoyed from the inside as well. In the kitchen this sense of light and space is amplified still further by a high vaulted ceiling and modern lighting. Sleek white units are topped with a polished black granite worktop whilst a more traditional welsh dresser and exposed stonewall give character and a sense of place.

The solid oak flooring continues next door into the lounge. Two large 3 seater sofas sit in front of a cast iron log burner. A modern TV sits in the corner of the room but your attention will undoubtedly be drawn to the view outside especially as the sun dips down into the bay towards the end of the day.

Two bedrooms, one double one twin. Again, both are bright and airy and well appointed. The bathroom next door has a contemporary suite complete with powerful shower over a large bath. A small utility room houses the washing machine and small freezer.

Dyffryn is a nice village complete with a small grocery store, butchers, post office and garage. All are within walking distance of the cottage. Same goes for the pub too. Which is handy. Visitors to this part of North Wales are spoilt for choice regards beaches. But it’s difficult to beat the sandy dunes of Bennar Beach in Dyffryn itself.

Jump in the car and the historic town of Harlech is 10minutes drive to the North and the seaside town of Barmouth is 10 minutes to the south. Moelfre and the Rhinog Mountain rage is just behind the cottage and are well worth exploring but Snowdon is about 40 mins to the north. Coed Y Brennin to the west is a mecca for mountain bikers and many more adventure type activities can be enjoyed in the surrounding area.

A lovely cottage with beautiful views. So large and light and has a really nice feel to it. We love this area because of the beach but it has taken us 4 years so find such a gorgeous place to stay so close to our favourite beach. I love the welcome gift, Black Dragon is my favourite cider! A new bbq appeared whilst we were there so did not get to use it but would like to in the future. The garden is impressive, a couple of cats roam through so with having big dogs we had to be aware of these visitors.

The little touches such as foil in the oven tins etc was helpful and thoughtful.

It would really improve the experience if the bedding was not synthetic (quilt/pillows). Also the mattress protector makes body heat difficult to regulate so it would be nice to find a natural one. I always find it a huge help if oil and salt & peppers grinders are provided (save purchasing each time).

A wonderful find in a great location, and it seems Dioni always brings the promise of a super clean cottage (a must for me!).

We have just had a fabulous week at this beautiful cottage. Dogs loved the enclosed garden, this was the second visit to this cottage and it was as perfect as the last. Immaculately clean, well equipped we would give this cottage 10/10. Had lots of BBQs and spent several days on the beach all very close to the cottage. A Spar shop in walking distance will butcher. Had a welcome hamper waiting for us. Thank you for a perfect stay, will becoming again!.

  3. David Brown says:

This is a beautiful house located in an ideal spot for visiting the local area. We went on local walks both up into the hills and to the beach directly from the house, as well as tours by car around the area including Mount Snowdon, Beddgelert, Portmeirion and Machynlleth. The house is more like a home than a typical holiday cottage, with large rooms and good equipment. It was also great to be able to enjoy a BBQ in the sunshine with views out to sea!

Wanted to book the cottage again for a 3week holiday for either July, Aug.or September but… Not surprised it is fully booked
Will have to check our dates for next year.
Thank you for a Beautiful Holiday X May 6th-10th. 2019

  5. Absolutely beautiful place we hope to return.

Lovely property, with great views. Spacious and well equipped. Only criticism would be that some form of clothes storage is needed in the main bedroom, a wardrobe or chest of drawers, as there’s currently nowhere to put your clothes apart from a coat stand.
Great welcome hamper and the owner had some good recommendations for local places of interest.

  7. Carys Law says:

We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at Hen Feudy. It’s a beautiful cottage, absolutely immaculate and the size of grounds were such a surprise, dog and children very happy! The views are also wonderful. We used it as a base to see our family and friends locally, and of course to visit the wonderful beaches. There’s lots to do. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Wythnos hyfryd yn yr Hen Feudy! Diolch.

  8. Liz says:

Spacious, well appointed, clean and warm cosy cottage with a beautiful, large and secure garden (great for the dog) plenty of parking and wonderful views. We were greeted by the owner who couldn’t have been more helpful and had left a very generous welcome hamper of local goodies. There are two small shops and a butchers that have most things you might need and the beach is only a 20min walk from the house. I am already recommending it to friends and family.

  9. Julia Stockton says:

Beautiful cottage, breathtaking views, great walks from your doorstep, beach about 1/2 walk, dogs loved the large secure garden, hoping to return next year.

  10. We found this cottage to be absolutely perfect for our needs. It is spacious, well kept and well equipped and the garden such fun to explore. The welcome pack of Welsh goodies was a lovely surprise which we enjoyed working our way through! We loved the views and watching the changing weather and sunsets was a daily activity! The drive up to the cottage is very steep but short but there is flat parking at the top. The village is well placed to access the areas around both Barmouth & Porthmadog and has a butchers that is a MUST for their award winning fare. We explored Nantcol waterfalls (highly recommend especially if you have children), Harlech castle, Crabbing at Barmouth, llanfair slate caverns (5 minutes up the road) and Talyllyn steam railway. The beach at Llandanwg is perfect as it has everything you need for a great day out; rockpools, acres of sand, toilets, cafe & parking. All in all a cottage we would highly recommend and one we would return to.

  11. We had a perfect family holiday with two young children (2 & 4) at Hen Feudy. Unexpectedly roomy, relaxing, high specification accomodation, vast gardens and stunning views. Recommend without hesitation. Huge amount to do if weather indifferent, although endless sun whilst we were there! Mike and Emily, Birmingham.

We stayed June 15th to 29th with our Lab so the first couple of days were wet & cloudy but the rest were ‘redders’! The property particulars and all other reviews are spot on and worth a read so many thanks to the other reviewers for these. Many thanks to Hen-Feudy, the village (never knew a Spar could be such a fab shop) the local area and all of its amenities and everyone we met for the best staycation we’ve ever had. We’re very happy to recommend.
