Bright And Airy Holiday Cottage In The Hills | Alwen

Alwen is a bright and airy holiday cottage in the hills of North Wales. This recent barn conversion with a modern open plan layout has been furnished with real style and elegance. The inclusion of a welcoming log fire combined with it’s quiet remote location make this the perfect destination for couples wanting to get away from it all.

Bright And Airy Holiday Cottage In The Hills | Alwen

The open plan living area has floor to ceiling windows that run along the length of this room giving it an ultra modern feel. Teal kitchen units are offset by 3 large lamps that hang down over the work space. All the appliances are new and there is everything you would need and expect for catering during your holiday. The contrasting vintage fold down dining room table and chairs works really well against everything else.

The sitting area is again simple and stylish. A corner sofa and retro arm chair provide the seating and the small tables, a mix of wood and teal bring it altogether. The large wood burner at the end of the room brings that essential cosy element. The fire and the underfloor heating will naturally make this spacious room toasty warm in those winter months.

The bedroom has a more romantic almost mediterranean feel to it.  A beautiful bed with velvet headboard and lots of plump cushions is flanked by some beautiful bedside lamps and terracotta walls. The ensuite bathroom has white brick style tiles in contrast to the wooden floor and a shower over bath arrangement.

The Alwen reservoir itself is only a five minute walk away.

The cottage is 16 miles away from the famous tourist town of Betws Y Coed and 11 miles from the more traditional market town of Bala. Betws Y Coed is home to the Swallow Falls and the Fairy Glen as well as the Marin Mountain Biking trail and Zip World Fforest with its zip wire safari high in the tree tops and the new 1km long zip Fforest Coaster ride.  Bala is where you will find all the watersports on Llyn Tegid including SUP, Kayaking, canoeing and sailing. The National White Water Centre is here too.

The larger castle town of Conwy is under an hour away, as is Portmeirion and Surf Snowdonia, a unique inland surfing lagoon near Llanrwst.  Snowdon and Zip World are also under an hour away and is a beautiful drive through the heart of the mountains. Foodies might also enjoy popping in on the award winning Rhug Farm Shop or the wonderful Bodnant Food centre.

Visitors here during Jan and Feb will enjoy the possibility of snow as the cottage is located above the snowline.

A lovely little find nestled into the forest landscape – feeling cosy yet open at the same time.

Beautifully designed – really appreciated the mixture of materials used on the outside of the cottage and LOVED the warm colours of the bedroom, making it stand out from your usual cottage interior.

Very friendly owner who is there if you need her but still makes you feel like you have your own private space to relax – a real getaway. We loved how there was no WiFi and no phone signal – once you’re up onto the main road there is signal if you need it.

The water pressure is a funny one but it didn’t bother us as we were in a rural landscape so you would have to expect it if you stayed here.

Upon arrival there was wine, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits – very yummy biscuits!

Would definitely stay here again in the future! Perfect for walkers!

We stayed for two nights in this beautiful property. We had passed it a few times on our way to Alwen Reservoir, and didn’t realise it was a holiday let. We found it on this website Dioni. So glad we did. So relaxing, with a beautiful garden to relax in Had my morning coffee watching the birds – swallows flying above my head, and chatting to each other on the telephone line above. Five minutes walk to the reservoir, and it’s magical walk around it. Very comfortable and warm. Loved the log burner! Would definitely stay again.
