Capel Prenteg is a cute, two bedroom holiday cottage near Porthmadog. With beautiful views of the Snowdonia mountains, it is a great little retreat for exploring the area. Placed along the route of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highlands Railway, the sound of the steam train from the garden could not be more idyllic.
The modern renovation of a section of this old chapel makes great use of the space, creating a more roomy feel and look than you normally get with these older buildings. As you come through the front door, the kitchen is on your left and the sitting room on your right with stairs leading to the first floor directly from the front hallway.
The kitchen is a galley style kitchen with slate floors and modern white, high gloss units – despite not being the largest of kitchens due to the nature of the building, it has everything you need for your stay here, including a washing machine. It is well laid out and with new appliances, a very workable space. There is a dining table and chairs through the opening from the kitchen into the hallway.
The sitting room has more of those beautiful views from the windows. A nice room with plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy their downtime and of course a TV where you can all congregate at the end of the day to watch a film.
Upstairs you will find a double and a twin room. Carpeted throughout, both rooms have a lovely feel to them and where you certainly get your rest and relaxation in. The family bathroom with shower over bath arrangement, WC and washbasin is all on the floor.

The cottage is on the outskirts of Tremadog – the hometown of Laurence Arabia would you believe! It’s a really lovely village with a couple of pubs with fantastic reputations for the food they offer as well as an award winning fish and chip shop – you’ll be spoilt for choice!
If you like climbing, then Tremadog is a real climbers paradise and you find a lot of choice within a relatively short distance. There is also an Osprey Wildlife Sanctuary you can visit in the village of Prentag itself. Set up by the local community, it works to protect the Glaslyn Valley Ospreys.
Porthmadog is a lovely harbour town where you’ll find all the main food shops along with a high street full of independent shops. The harbour has a selection of restaurants and cafes and from here, a short 15 minute walk will bring you into the village of Borth a Gest where you’ll find beaches and a couple of traditional style cafes. Portmeirion Village is also just 10 minutes outside of Porthmadog and a great place to visit
In the other direction from the cottage, you will come to Beddgelert. A very popular village in the heart of Snowdonia. Beautiful rivers and walks to be had, it’s definitely not to be missed. If you are into adventure and outdoor sports, you could not be better placed to enjoy the activities on offer – gorge walking, climbing, walking, kayaking, white water rafting, canyoning, SUP etc are all readily available throughout the area from a number of different activity providers around the area.
You are 40 minutes from the foot of Snowdon, Forest Coaster and Zip World and an hour from Adventure Parc Snowdonia and Coed Y Brenin. Caernarfon is only 30 minutes up the road. So as you can see you are well placed to take full advantage of seeing the area.
