Farm Holiday Cottage Near Betws Y Coed | Hafod-Y-Coed

This traditional old barn has been converted into a fantastic farm holiday cottage near Betws Y Coed in Snowdonia, North Wales. As well as providing some lovely holiday accommodation, staying at Hafod-Y-Coed gives you that chance to taste the farming life we’ve all wondered about at some time or other. Taking the time to chat to the unbelievably cute piglets in the field next door, feeding the chickens on the other side of the barn or just watching the lambs gamboling across the fields as you enjoy a glass of wine on the patio at the end of the day.

Inside the living area is one big open plan space. A comfortable leather sofa and armchair surrounds a very welcoming log fire and a large flat screen TV. The kitchen area and dining table sits at the other end of the room. The kitchen is very well equipped and includes a modern electric oven and hob, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. The dining table and chairs are a contemporary oak design.

Some impressive welsh slate flags cover the floor made to feel luxuriously warm by a modern hydro electric powered under-floor heating system. The high vaulted ceilings give the cottage a great sense of light and space while carefully selected fixtures and fittings add a touch of style and elegance.

There are two bedrooms either end of the cottage. The first double bedroom has the advantage of a large en-suite shower room. There are oak floorboards in the bedrooms. Some lovely ledge and brace solid wood doors and modern oak beds and bedside tables compliment this.

The twin bedroom is very similar and, like the rest of the cottage, is dotted with some tasteful soft furnishings and blinds. The adjoining family bathroom has a shower over bath arrangement as well as a wc and washbasin.

Location

The cottage is located on a small holding farm near Capel Garrmon some 3 miles from the ever popular Betws Y Coed. North Wales and the Snowdonia National park is fast becoming a mecca for adventure sports of course. Blaenau Ffestiniog some 20 minutes to the south of the cottage is a particular hot spot. A 4 man zip line will carry you high above the valley floor. Once you’re finished you might like to descend below ground to experience the amazing Bounce Below. A system of underground trampoline nets suspended within the historic slate caverns. If that isn’t enough you could have a go at the internationally renowned down hill mountain biking trails also located in the town.

Historical and cultural attractions are also a big draw for a lot of our guests. Narrow gauge steam railways, historical industrial sites and ancient castles and fortifications are dotted all over this part of the world. In fact, the Capel Garmon Neolithic Burriel Chamber is within walking distance of the cottage and is well worth a visit. Caernarvon Castle, Harlech Castle and Conwy Castle are all within an hours drive.

And a renewed interest in our food and agricultural heritage has led to a resurgence in fine dining and farmers markets. The Bodnant Welsh Food Centre, 30 minutes to the north, is highly recommended. We’re also pleased to note that the village pub in Betws Garmon has recently been re opened. The pub is 1.7 miles from the cottage so just about wakable I would say.

Only managed to grab a four-night break – unfortunately!!
The owners (Sue and Ioan)are very friendly and welcoming; the dog Nell is also very friendly.
What a cottage. Extremely well presented and wonderfully refurbished by the family. And what a location too; ideal base from which to explore this beautiful countryside.
    Ticks all the boxes.
The welcome “treats” were much appreciated.

  2. We have just returned from nine nights and were sad to leave this beautiful place, two weeks would have been just right.
Sue and Ioan are really lovely people and made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble, a very sweet couple indeed.
The farm is off the beaten track, though only a few minutes drive from the main road, which gives you access to so many things. The views are outstanding and you can even see the mountains in the distance.
We visited Conwy, Ty Mawr, Barmouth, the White water rafting centre at Bala, Beddgelert, Porthmadog, Criccieth, Llanberis and the pass, all of which I can thoroughly recommend and none more then 30 to 40 or so minutes away, and most a lot closer.
Now on to the cottage itself, it is even nicer than the pictures, it is super cosy, warm, beautifully kitted out with everything you could possibly need. There is a nice fenced off garden at the back with seats and tables. The beds are really comfortable and the bathrooms really modern and well equipped.
Needless to say we will most definitely be staying there again.
Thank you to Sue and Iona and of course Nel their lovely dog.

This was our first holiday without our children since being married in 1983. It was great to get away from all the normal activities and to have such an enjoyable holiday, we have not been to any other holiday destination where the accommodation was so well planned and thought out. Everything had been thought of and even the family pets (although working ones) made us welcome. Well done and thank you for your welcome Sue, we will be planning to come back soon.

We had a brilliant time at the cottage. The place was nice and cosy with all our requirements taken care of. Home baked cakes, bara brith and the organic eggs and sausages were a bonus that went down quite well with the family.
My daughter loved waking up between the animals (not literally!) and we will definitely be coming ack to the cottage. Highly recommended for people interested in staying closer to nature in a friendly place!!

We had a fantastic holiday here and hope to return next summer. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we could have possibly needed and more. It was lovely to spend time in the countryside with beautiful scenery all around us. We had a very relaxing break here. Our son loved spending time on the farm and seeing all the animals, his highlight was befriending the farm cat and dog and seeing newborn piglets.

  6. We had a wonderful stay at Hafod-Irwch. Sue and Ione made us feel very welcome and the cottage is perfect. The little touches such as tea/ coffee / sugar along with warm Welsh cakes, cake and fresh farm eggs when you arrive are so welcoming. Sue has thought of everything that you need to make your holiday perfect from the beautiful furnishings, modern kitchen through to the basket of logs for the woodturner and washing up liquid, dishcloth and dishwasher tablets. We enjoyed a fabulous joint of lamb from the farm on our last night which Sue kindly cooked for us whilst we were out for the day! What a treat. The cottage is set amid stunning countryside and its a perfect location for exploring the area where there are so many different sights and experiences to please all the family. We look forward to returning.

  7. Just got back from a fab holiday here and absolutely loved it. Cottage was perfect, had everything you could possibly need and want. Sue and Loan were very welcoming and sue’s Bara Brith was amazing =]
    Sure to be back.

Had a great time the only downside is we only booked for 3 nights not the full week!!
The cottage has everything you would need and more. It’s lovely and cosy too.
In the local area there is plenty to do especial if you have family or friends with you.
    We will be back

We had a great week at the cottage. Sue and Iona have done a fantastic job on the conversion, and are both very welcoming. Iona has a great knowledge of the area so if your walking consult him, he knows all the best bits! It’s very modern but has retained the traditional features you would expect in a Welsh cottage. Sue has added some lovely little touches which make it very homely. It’s very new and clean even though your on a farm as long as you leave your muddy boots or wellies outside. Every day new lambs arrived so lovely to see. We could have stayed forever. Hope to return later this year.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the cottage. The owners were very welcoming and the cake, flowers and fresh eggs went down a treat. As this is on a working farm, the kids loved having the sheep appear right outside their bedroom window. The cottage is very cosy, and even without the log burner, still nice and warm. The decor is all new, very clean and nicely laid out. We will most certainly be returning in the summer.
