Four Bedroom Holiday Cottage in Harlech | Porkington-Terrace

No.1 Porkington Terrace is a chic and stylish four bedroom holiday cottage in Harlech. Right in the heart of this picturesque and friendly holiday town, the cottage is in walking distance of a lovely collection of cafes, pubs and shops, as well as being within easy reach of a stunning sandy beach and the wild ruggedness of the mountains of Snowdonia.

Harlech Beach in spring

Sat just above the famous Harlech Castle, the cottage is the first in a row of handsome stone built terraced houses. A turquoise blue front door leads us through a small entrance lobby into a surprisingly large lounge. There’s an immediate wow factor here. A huge inglenook fireplace houses a welcoming woodburning stove on a traditional welsh slate hearth. A designer sofa and arm chairs sit facing the fire and combine with more traditional furniture and ornaments to create a really elegant space.

The kitchen diner next door is smaller but equally modish. Again, modern appliances are complimented by more traditional solid wood kitchen units and a slate floor. The dining table sits in the light of a large sash window, which looks over rooftops down towards the castle and the sandy shoreline beyond.

Out through the back door from the kitchen, there is a very useful undercover passageway, ideal for storing a pushchair and bike or two. Off this, there is a bijou wash room with toilet, washbasin and washing machine, and a great drying room perfect for drying washing, wetsuits, and waterproofs with freezer.

We return to the lounge to climb the generously wide staircase up to the bedrooms on the first floor. At the front of the house there are two stylish and characterful double bedrooms which enjoy gorgeous views out over Harlech Castle and the beautiful Porthmadog Bay. Next door we have a very cute single bedroom.

The other side of the stairs, the bathroom houses a nice simple white bathroom suite with a bath and separate shower. The bath is lovely and big but you might have to set time limits on it’s use as this is the only bathroom in the house. The beautiful twin bedroom at the back of the house is lovely and light and includes a set of french doors which lead out onto a small private patio area and the terraced garden beyond – perfect for that morning coffee before the kids get up perhaps.

The terrace to the front of the house is a great place to sit and soak up the views of the castle below and sea beyond and the mountains of central Snowdonia to the north, and to watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

The back garden is accessed from the kitchen via a quirky undercover passageway. From here guests can climb up a small set of steps, passing the private patio area accessed from the twin bedroom, up to a second larger seating area which is nicely enclosed and sheltered. Although there isn’t room for a game of football up here, the aspect of the garden and its foliage means guests have a view over the rooftops to the sea without being overlooked by neighbours.  The terraced design of the garden means toddlers should be supervised at all times.

The town itself, as well as being home to the majestic Harlech Castle, has a great selection of cafes and restaurants to offer, as well as some small shops and a couple of pubs. A lot of our guests are sure to make a beeline down the hill from the cottage to the wonderful sandy beach, while others might head in the opposite direction where a short climb will lead you to Cwm Bychan and the lake that sits at the foot of the popular Roman Steps footpath, or further up still into the Rhinog Mountains. The highly regarded Royal St Davids Links Golf Course is also within walking distance but also has a complimentary car park.

A stunning 20 minute car journey will take you to the larger towns of Barmouth to the south or Porthmadog to the north. A larger collection of shops and restaurants can be found in both towns. There’s loads to do in the area, whatever your interest. Everything from mountain biking to underground trampolining, and gorge walking to paintballing can be experienced nearby. But don’t worry, these adventure sports are not compulsory if a glass of wine and a good book is more your scene.

We have had the best week in your beautiful cottage; one of the best highlights of the week. It has been an oasis of calm and relaxation. This is our first time to North Wales, but it won’t be our last!

We had a lovely stay in this cleverly decorated cottage – love the Hygge style! The views of the sunsets have been fantastic. The boys have had great fun down on the beach – in the wind, rain and sunshine. A fun week of great trips on steam railways, to the Centre for Alternative Technology, local waterfalls, walks and of course the very impressive Harlech Castle. Thanks so much Meg for sharing your cottage with us!

We have had a wonderful two weeks at No.1 Porkington Terrace, and were very sad to leave! It is a fantastic house, and has been a home from home. We have very much enjoyed being based in Harlech – a friendly place and a super base from which to explore further, either north or south. We have made sure we got out and about and explored the area. The views and sunsets from the house were spectacular! Thank you very much Meg

Just back from an amazingly relaxing week in this beautiful cottage right in the centre of Harlech. We really enjoyed Harlech beach and other nearby beaches – the weather was stunning! The castle and the little places to eat in Harlech are also great. The cottage has been so lovingly decorated and furnished – it felt like a real treat to say there. It is very well stocked with lots of really useful visitor information, maps ,guides and books on the area. There was also lots to keep our little boy (aged 5) entertained in the local area. He was delighted to find the cottage came with it’s own boogie boards and little fishing net. Lovely little touches. He happily played in the cottage garden and on the terrace while we sat and enjoyed the stunning views in the evening. A real gem of a cottage in a beautiful location.
