Pandy is a perfect example of holiday accommodation for the family. Sitting at the foot of the beautiful Cwm Pennant valley ensures guest can enjoy the wonders of the North Wales coastline and the majesty of the Snowdonia Mountains. Just as importantly the owners, Tom and Bren, have created a real home from home in this traditional farmhouse cottage.
A private driveway leads up through a farm gate into a private parking area. Passing some mature shrubs we climb three granite stone flags to a lovely painted front door. A small entrance area opens out onto a large kitchen diner. A convenient breakfast table sits on a quarried tiled floor and is a welcome addition for guests wanting to enjoy a quick breakfast before a day’s walk or some afternoon tea without the formality of eating on the large dining table through in the conservatory.
The adjoining kitchen makes this a nice communal space where mum and dad can be preparing sandwiches chatting to the children while they finish off their corn flakes. The kitchen is simple but well equipped and has a nice view over the back garden.
From here we climb up two steps to get to the utility room. This includes a washing machine and deep set Belfast sink and acts as a useful boot room at the end of a long day. The owners have included a small cupboard that acts as a enchanting shop with useful essentials such as stamps and postcards as well as local produce and hand made crafts. An honesty box is the only till.
Next door is the ground floor bathroom. This is a spacious room but the only bathroom in the cottage. It includes a bath in addition to a separate large walk in shower, WC and washbasin. There is a second WC and washbasin in an adjoining room.
A large sunny conservatory provides a home to a large dining table with plenty of room for up to 8 diners. Some bright wicker furniture and patio doors opening onto the private rear garden makes this a great addition to the cottage on sunny days.
Finally we get to the lounge. This will be a popular retreat for all our guests in the evenings. Three comfortable sofas sit facing a lovely log burner set within the original inglenook fireplace. Gentle lighting, the crackle of the warming log fire and plenty of soft cushions ensures a peaceful end to your day.
When it is eventually time for bed guests climb up what is quite a steep staircase to the 4 bedrooms. Each one as charming as the next. We have one smaller bunk room only really suitable for children and one larger double room. Both rooms have a nice view over the back garden and the fields of sheep beyond. At the front of the house we have one twin room and a second double room. Both have lovely deep set window seats in front of double glazed sash windows.

Cwmystradllyn is one of my favourite places in North Wales. 5 minutes from the mountains and 10 minutes from the sea make it the perfect location for families wanting to enjoy the varied landscapes of Snowdonia. And thankfully, at the moment at least, it’s a bit of a hidden secret. So mum’s the word.
Walking will be the obvious draw for a lot of our guests. There are plenty of options right from your front door so no need to get in the car. The Nantlle Ridge or Graig Goch will provide a stern test for the more intrepid while a gentler stroll along the river Dwyfor may suit younger children.
Poplar beaches nearby include Borth Y Guest, Black Rock Sands as well as Criccieth. There are lots of nice little tea rooms, and restaurants in Criccieth and yet more choice in the harbour town of Porthmadog, both within a 10 minute drive from the Cottage.
Nearby attractions include the lovely pet farm in Chwilog, Bear Grylls adventure centre in Llanystumdwy and the Welsh Highland Railway. A lot of our guests will also enjoy a day out at the Glaslyn Carting Track, Zip Line adventures in Blaenau
Ffestiniog, white water rafting on the Tryweryn and mountain biking on numerous nearby tracks.
