Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy with Sea Views Walking Distance to Pub

Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy, Sea Views and Walking Distance to Pub | Y-Felin

Y Felin, Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy, is in a rural village in Snowdonia, half way between Harlech and Barmouth on the Cambrian Coast road. A short grassy drive leads up to a private but sunny garden. (It never rains in Wales, honest!) Slate stepping stones guide you to the front door of this beautiful, typically asymmetrical, 17th century stone cottage.

Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy, Sea Views and Walking Distance to Pub | Y-Felin

Open the door of this Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy and step onto the warm slates which cover the ground floor. (This under floor heating is a marvellous thing) Modern facilities, dishwasher, washing machine etc are combined with original features like the ledged and braced doors and exposed beams.

There’s a cosy lounge complete with obligatory inglenook or ‘simne fawr’ with cast iron log burner. Perfect for those romantic evenings cuddled up together on the couch. Upstairs there’s a modern bathroom where the complete with ceramic bath and power-shower and there’s a nice view of the cows from the bath if you leave the curtains open. The two bedrooms are nicely furnished and all the linen was crisp and clean.

Both bedrooms have window seats overlooking the coastline about half a mile away. One disadvantage of this period property however was the painfully low doors. But I learned to duck by about the third day. In front of the house, some old barns and stone walls combine to provide a secluded courtyard type garden. Surrounding that is a 4 acre field which came with the property and was perfect for our Border Collie.

Location

The train station is about half a mile away and the bus stop is just up the road from this Holiday Cottage Dyffryn Ardudwy. But best of all there are two pubs within walking/staggering distance. Dyffryn is a nice village complete with a small grocery store and butchers, post office and garage.

The historic town of Harlech is 10minutes drive to the North and the seaside town of Barmouth is 10 minutes to the south.

Moelfre and the Rhinog Mountain range is just behind you and the beach is just in front of you. Lots to do in the area, Harlech has its famous castle of course as well as an 18 hole links golf course. We also enjoyed our time at the pony trekking school in Dolgellau, a nearby market town.

Y Felin is a beautiful cottage with stunning sunsets lighting up the rooms , If your lucky enough to have the sunny weather we did . Perfectly clean and comfortable , lovely and quiet but close to amenities.
The field was a great bonus for our Dogs .
We had to cut out holiday short tragically, but will be back again to such a little gem .
Thank you for the welcome basket it was so thoughtful .

Just returned from a great week at Y-Felin, very clean cottage with all the facilities required for a relaxing week away. This is our second Dioni break and we have a third booked. The service is amazing, cottages great, locations etc all good. Welcome hamper is a really lovely touch.
Really enjoyed it – thank you.

Really cozy cottage with gorgeous views from the bedroom window seats.
Our collie LOVED having the big field next to the cottage to race around in… the beach is walking distance and far more beautiful and peaceful than Barmouth or Harlech. A great place to stay with or without children and dog!

We returned last week after a really delightful stay at Y-Felin. Very sadly one of our dogs had died the day before we arrived and coming to Dyffryn was so wonderful and helped enormously. Dyffryn was my husband’s childhood home so we are very familiar with the area and slightly biased (!) to say that Bennar beach is our favourite place – probably in the world. Our dogs adore being there too and I think we know every sand dune as we walk miles there each day.
We haven’t stayed at Y-Felin before (although I think we have used Dioni) but we are definitely coming back. This charming little cottage offered everything we love about being back in Wales, warm and friendly, well equipped, comfy chairs, hot water and a lovely gift basket with Louise’s lemon drizzle cake to enjoy. Nothing intimidating to worry about breaking and very practical to keep clean after beach visits…so important!
Good WiFi but don’t expect phone signal for your mobile phone inside the cottage, you might get it in the garden. Having the enclosed garden and access to the field makes this a perfect place for dogs and then finding his bed was on a heated floor was bliss!
From Y-Felin you can get to anywhere in North Wales and there are endless walks, cycle routes and train rides to enjoy. In the village just up the lane from the cottage there are two great little cafes, Fox’s who sell probably anything you might need along with newspapers / post office and London House, the excellent butcher / grocer / general store. There is a largish co-op in Barmouth but please support the village stores if you can. And everyone is quite friendly and helpful – even if you don’t speak Welsh!
Check the tide times but with Barmouth, Dyffryn and Harlech on your doorstep you will always find there is somewhere to walk safely.
There are lots of things to do in this area with the children if the weather isn’t lovely – check local information as you might need to book ahead.
(p.s. It would be good if the towel rail could be made to work properly please?)
Already looking forward to our next visit, thank you for sharing Y-Felin with us. Christine and Meyrick Williams
