Another hidden gem nestling among the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park. This holiday cottage near Harlech has two bedrooms on the ground floor and is a perfect retreat for people looking to get away from it all.
It’s quite a new build so all the essentials are well taken care of. Efficient central heating, unlimited hot water, a fully fitted kitchen and spotlessly clean throughout. The lounge is comfortably furnished and include a traditional and handsome welsh dresser and I’m sure most guests will spend a lot of time with the large patio doors thrown open so as to make the most of the view. The cottage looks out onto the northern slopes of Moelfre and the Rhinog mountain range which stretch out towards Barmouth and the Mawddach Estuary. And cow watching is much more fun than people watching.
There’s separate dining area which sits five or more quite comfortably. The adjoining kitchen is quite small but it has everything you’d need including a dishwasher and washing machine. There’s a large bathroom with shower over bath. One twin bedroom room and finally, a large family bedroom with king sized bed and an extra single bed if required. Opening the curtains in this south facing bedroom every morning is sure to be one of your favorite bits of the holiday.

Location
I say this about a lot of our cottages. But the location really couldn’t be much better. The cottage sits above the pretty little seaside village of Llanfair on the Cambrian coast. You climb up a small lane out of the village before winding your way back down a private driveway to the farm. The nearest beach, Llandanwg, is one of our favorites, with its little rock pools to one side and sandy dunes on the other. The historic castle town of Harlech is about 2 miles to the north. There are three or four pubs in the town as well as a selection of restaurants. There’s also the castle of course and the famous St David’s links golf course. If you decide to stay, you must also find the time to drive a little further up the lane to Cwm Bychan and the magical lake up there. It’s a beautiful spot and offers some fantastic wild trout fishing. Other popular activities in the area include mountain biking and walking of course.

Had a fantastic stay here. The location of this superb cottage is quite stunning. Has everything you would need. Just like home from home. Had a lovely warm welcome from Helen on arrival. The cake and flowers were a very nice gesture. If you are in need of a relaxing holiday or even a walking one this is ideal, the best of both worlds. The weather was very good to us. The beach at Harlech is lovely to have a long walk on. Spent time just relaxing watching the cows which at times are quite comical. Would definitely recommend and we are hoping to return.
Spent a restful week at this fantastic well equipped and comfortable cottage.Country side and cows to be seen sitting on the patio or through the floor to ceiling patio windows.Flowers and a super Bara Brith cake welcomed us to the spacious cottage with leather chairs and a huge tele good for watching the World Cup.The views on the track to the cottage were amazing over the coast and small estuary where you could walk ,visit the cafe or sit on the beach.Toilets as well. All the coast round here is amazing….and a must visit is Harlech castle with cafe which had views to the Snowdonia hills.Have run out of superlatives for this cottage and surrounding area.Come and find out for yourself.
We had a lovely stay. Fantastic cottage with beautiful views and very peaceful. Cakes were delicious and Helen very helpful. I left my computer mouse which Helen kindly sent to my home address. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and is spotless throughout. We enjoyed it so much we booked again for November before we left which says it all really.
A fantastic cottage in a superb location. Cleanliness 10/10 and Helen was very helpful on our arrival. The home made Victoria sandwich cake was an added bonus. Definitely will re visit in the near future.
We had a wonderfull stay with perfect weather. The cake was very tasty. The house clean and comfortabel. We hope to come back.
We had a fantastic week at this stunning cottage. Helen the owner so welcoming & should be competing in the Great British Bake Off. Her freshly baked Victoria sponge was excellent.
Spotlessly clean, high quality, comfortable pretty cottage, wifi perfect and appreciated as it’s very remote. Quiet and peaceful never slept so well even though we were lucky enough to be there during the recent very hot heatwave.
Sitting having breakfast on the pretty patio in the morning and enjoying the afternoon sunshine was lovely.
Will never forget our holiday in a beautiful hidden gem. Wow!!!
We loved staying here over Easter; a homely, warm, comfortable, spotlessly clean cottage to come back to every evening. The cottage has everything we needed for a family holiday and stunning views from the bedrooms and sitting room.
Having stayed in the farm-house when I was younger, it was lovely to be here again and just as magical.
Thank you Helen and Edward for making us so welcome – we had an amazing holiday.
Our second visit to this superb cottage where we could enjoy those features high on our agenda – relaxation peace and quiet and welcoming hospitality. Thanks again Helen for the lovely cake surprise and the fresh flowers – nice touch! Best Wishes to Ed trust all goes well and hope to see you later in the year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at this very comfortable, warm cottage. Thank you, Helen, for the delicious cake – lovely to come back to after a walk in the hills.
We would definitely recommend Llanfair Cottage – a beautiful location.
Wonderful stay at this cottage. Even the weather was not always the best, one could easily just sit in the cosy chairs and look through the huge window, seeing the cows passing by the trees bending in the wind,…. The cottage is well equipped, spacy, well located. Helen is very helpful and caring if needed, her cake just yummmi!
The nearby beach is the best in the area, Harlech itself a nice little village. You can easily reach all the important points to visit in north wales, so don’t hesitate to book!
Simone, her husband and children ( 3 boys, aged 14, 13, 9)
We had a wonderful week here. The cottage is in a beautiful location with great views, and equipped with everything you need. The children loved watching the sheep and cows outside the windows. Helen made a delicious cake and made us feel very welcome.

We have just spent five very enjoyable days at this exceptional cottage. It is very comfortable, warm, well equiped and clean but what makes it really special are the wonderful views of the mountains and the sea and also the total peace and quiet. Helen is very friendly and welcoming (a delicious sponge awaited us) but also very respectful of her guests’ privacy. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your kind comments, pleased that you both had a good time .All the best ,
Helen & Edward
We had a lovely stay at Llanfair cottage. A lovely welcome with a gorgeous CHOCOLATE cake from Helen (our favourite!) and a relaxing break away. We had chronic weather but even then, we enjoyed many of the lovely walks around the region and it was nice to return to the cosy cottage to warm up and take in the views. Thanks very much, we hope to return one day to make the most of the beautiful surroundings in better weather.
We had a wonderful week relaxing on the farm. The cottage has great views to the sea whilst being surrounded by the mountains. Helen was the most welcoming host and made a delicious cake for our arrival. The cottage was lovely and comfortable, peaceful, and a short drive to nearby Harlech and the beach.
We would recommend to anyone and hope to stay again sometime in the future ourselves.
We were made to feel very welcome by owner Helen table set for tea and a delicious homemade cake. the cottage was very comfortable and spotless. Views are spectacular and so peaceful. We had a wonderful holiday
We had such a lovely holiday. The cottage is in an amazing location, so peaceful and with spectacular views. We were lucky to have a couple of warm evenings when we could sit out on the patio with a drink and enjoy the views and surroundings. The great thing about the cottage is that even when the weather isn’t up to sitting outside you can sit in the living room and admire the view through the big french windows. The cottage was very comfortable and warm (despite it being June we did need the heating on a few times and we found it to be very efficient). There was plenty of hot water for a relaxing bath after a long day walking. We would definitely recommend a holiday here and we hope to return one day ourselves too.
We were welcomed into the cottage by Helen to a table laid for tea and a well recieved home made cake.
one of the positives of self catering in Llanfair cottage is that no matter how challenging the day say walking to the summit of Snowdon as we did on one day or rambling around the headland of the llyn Peninsula east of Aberdaron an another you know although tired that you are returning to a warm inviting, clean, well appointed and delightful Llanfair cottage.
The short drive to the cottage from the road along a tarmac lane through the sheep strewn field bordered by dry stoned walls of glacial boulders is a delight. My companions coming from the environs of the city of Stuttgart had their city sapped batteries charged to the full again at Llanfair
so thanks to everyone involved. Mark Birgit and Michael
My wife and I have just had a most enjoyable eight day stay at Llanfair Cottage and we have to say it was the most relaxing break we have had anywhere and further more peace and quiet abounds.A much appreciated bonus was just the very best April weather seen in many a long year.
Helen is one of life’s very genuinely helpful people and made us very welcome from the outset adding that if we required any assistance we must not hesitate to ask.
A very nice surprise on our arrival was Helen’s delicious chocolate cake waiting for us on the table – just the ticket to have a slice (or two!) with our first cup of tea.
We will return to Llanfair for another relaxing break where peace and quiet achieves another level.
I have to say what an excellent place to stay from start to finish. Helen met us at the property, she had already put the heating on for us and left us a delicious homemade cake that we all loved. Property was like a home from home, everything you needed, very comfortable and a stunning location. Best of all Helen has just posted me my daughters cuddly toy that she had left in the property. 5*****. Will definitely stay again.
We spent three nights here in early October, the weather was changeable but the cottage was lovely and cosy and had just about everything we needed. Excellent location, peaceful and away from it all. Would definitely stay here again 🙂
1st visit to cottage (not to wales though) it was like home from home an absolute credit to Helen, we had a small hiccup with heating but was dealt with without fuss. Helen is very welcoming and so easy to get on with you feel like you’re a friend . You do need transport but if able to go walking there are ample walks from the door. the views are breathtaking we shall certainly return and would have no hesitation in recommending both the cottage and Dioni.
Thanks for great holiday
Second visit , and again first class , ideal location to get around and visit other parts of the area, cafe on the beach 5mins away to chillax with a coffee or two.
Home from home everything you need is here plus the added bonus of the views
Looking foreward to 2014
This is a very pleasant specious bungalow with many of the necessary odds and ends needed for a holiday. We really enjoyed our stay here and the friendliness of the people at the farm. Would recommended it to anyone who has their own transport.. My grand daughter loved the cat and was overjoyed when she came for a walk with us all the way up the lane and back.

I have just returned from a week in this cottage, it was so peaceful, beautiful and a really relaxing break (even with a 1 year old!). Despite the mixed weather we found plenty to do – day trip to Llanberis to visit the Slate Museum and take the Llanberis lake railway train ride (climbing Snowdon we left for next time), Farm Park nearby which our toddler really enjoyed, walking in Coed Y Brenin, exploring Harlech Castle, beautiful walks from out of the front door… and we were very lucky to have three gorgeous lambs at the farm who we could help to feed! However for the times that we just wanted to relax inside the cottage was warm and cosy, and the views are lovely down to the sea. Helen and her family were all amazing, and we very much hope that we’ll be able to return soon!
This cottage and its location is a gem, the views are to die for , The beach is only minutes away, if you want 5 star accomadation and a 5 star location this is the one , I shall not be telling anyone about this cottage so it remains a secret , will be back in July and beyond, amazing.
lovely spacious, well furnished, warm cottage. Well equipped kitchen and lots hot water. Beautiful veiws of sea and surrouding countryside. Very satisfied customers!
We had a wonderful week at Hengaeau. So peaceful and relaxing, fantastic views & a brilliant cottage for a 5 year old and 1 year old twins to safely run around! Helen gave a warm and friendly welcome, with some very tasty cakes that didn’t last long! The cottage itself is deceptively spacious and has everything you need. The pics don’t do it justice! We will definitely return!
The cottage is awesome and you will love your time there, it’s clean and in a great but remote spot.
Would go back again.
Our first time renting a holiday cottage and what a find! A little piece of Heaven if you like peace and quiet with absolutely stunning views over the countryside and the sea in the distance. We were lucky enough to be able to eat out on the patio a couple of nights and the only sound we could hear was the birdsong. Helen and Edward were splendid hosts, there with tea and cake on arrival and on hand if you needed her for anything. The cottage is equipped with everything you could need and was spotlessly clean. Ideally located for most of the attractions North Wales has to offer within an hour or two travelling by car. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, big thankyou to Helen and Edward and we will hopefully see you again.
Just arrived back home after a wonderful holiday in Wales. A well equipped cottage with wonderful views and the peace and quiet you so long for when you’re on holiday . We enjoyed talking to our hosts, who were very warm and welcoming. Harlech is a beautiful place with its beach, the castle and its quirky little streets with some nice shops. The right starting point for walks in the area and for various other outings. We went mountainbiking in Coed Y Brenin, went by train along the coast and enjoyed the numerous prehistoric and historic sites on Angelsey. Closer by, we enjoyed Shell Island and the beautiful little church at Llandanwg.
Dear Helen and family, we will tell friends and family in Holland that they must certainly stay with you when they consider vitising Wales. Thank you for a wonderful holiday and hopefully we will return.
This is a beautiful bungalow and situation to stay. Everything you could wish for at hand for self catering. We enjoyed are stay here in spite of the terrible wet weather.
very well equipped bungalow everthing you need for your stay lovely places to see in this area
We had a lovely short break at the end of January for my girlfriends birthday. The accommodation is superb, everything you need is provided inside and the location is fantastic with lovely views and tranquility. There are many walks from the cottage and Snowdonia is on the doorstep. Helen was a lovely hostess, greeting us on arrival providing some fantastic cakes!! We will definately be returning for a longer break soon. Highly reccomended.

We really loved staying at this cottage in September 2011 and quickly felt at home after we were greeted by Helen who presented us with a tasty homemade cake and a cup of tea.
We spend a lot of our time at the cottage as the weather was not pleasant all of the time, but we did not mind this much as the cottage is spacious, warm, cosy and has fantastic view.
The village is very cute and has the most friendly residents. We would love to come back.
We would like to wish Helen and the Family a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We stayed sunday 25th September for 3 nights. Weather was amazing, so I think that helped! For the price, we are very happy after our stay, such a quiet and relaxing location. The cottage is far enough away from the farmhouse to have some privacy and the views are fantastic! We got a fesh cake on arrival, which is a nice touch.
We explored the coast from Barmouth to Abersoch, but found Harlech to be the nicest place and the beach!
You have to see the beach yourself…..
The cottage was brilliant. Amazing location. We loved it, definitely a relaxing break away. The glorious weather helped of course and spent most of our days at the beach, and loved coming back to the lovely views, cup of tea and piece of cake!
Loved it, the cottage was great and equipped with everything one needs to a week away from it all. We will be back!

Hengaeau is an idyllic retreat!! Perfect location if you wish to explore the fabulous surrounding area, even better if you just wish for a peaceful, relaxing break. We recieved a very warm welcome from the lovely owners who were very sweet to my young children who loved the welcome cakes!
The cottage itself has everything you could need during your break & was well maintained, comfortable & clean! We only stayed for four nights this time, during which the weather was perfect everyday enabling us to fully enjoy the fabulous local beaches and the patio at the cottage. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
Hello Gwion and Louise
We thought Hengaeau was one of your better properties. Really well equipped, warm and dry. This was particularly important since it hardly stopped raining during our visit, until we left for home.! But this is Wales and we love it. Final point — the welcome cake! –a lovely touch.

The cottage was fantastic in an unbeatable location, Mountains behind, sea in the distance, cows in the field opposite – not in “cages” as my inner city son exlaimed. It was excellently well equipt-better than our own house!!!! Roomy with a picture window you could stare out of for hours.
Helen is warm and friendly and the cake on arrival was a lovely touch. WE had a gloriously relaxing few days-just what the Dr Ordered. Many thanks.
