Holiday Cottage Near The Beach in Criccieth | Towyn

Towyn is a traditional two bedroom holiday cottage near the beach in Criccieth, North Wales. The cottage has big spacious living area and two comfortable bedrooms and is walking distance from a couple of pubs, some lovely restaurants and a small collection of local shops and delicatessens. A perfect location for a traditional seaside holiday.

In the living room, two comfortable sofas sit facing each other either side of a lovely real log fire. Whilst at the other end of the room, an impressive solid wood dining table and chairs sit in front of a large picture window looking seaward. The adjoining snug come lounge is smaller but still plenty of room for four people. This room includes that all important TV and a living flame gas fire this time. The fire is a lovely focal point naturally, but the modern central heating system will also provide more than enough heat through the entire house.

An original pastel blue enamelled Aga is a welcome addition to what is otherwise a thoroughly modern kitchen. Simple cream kitchen units under a beach effect worktop sit under double glazed windows facing out onto the lovely and mature rear garden. The breakfast table is a great option for more informal meal times or if you’re busy preparing a picnic for that family day on the beach.

There are two bedrooms in the cottage. One twin room and one double room. The double room is especially spacious with a double bed and lots of storage space. Both rooms are bright and airy and wonderfully quiet thanks to the thick stonewalls. The bathroom is split into two with a large shower cubicle and washbasin in one room and a WC and washbasin in a second room. A great arrangement if, like me, you have two teenage daughters who seem to spend forever in the shower.

The cottage has a lovely elevated garden to the rear of the house. Mature shrubs and lawn help frame a wonderfully informal outdoor space. Views of both the sea and Criccieth castle are the icing on the cake.

There is a nice collection of shops and delies in the village. Idris Café with its freshly baked bread and cakes is a favourite of mine. But if you want a bit more choice a short 10 minute drive along the coast road will bring you to the larger harbour towns of Pwllheli and Porthmadog. Both towns have the standard chain supermarkets as well as a mix of shops, pubs and restaurants.

If you get bored of the beach there’s lots to do in the area. Criccieth golf course is walking distance away from the cottage. Paint balling, cross-country Segway rides, animal pet farm, go karting and more are also nearby. Guests should book ahead for larger attractions such as the Zip Wire in Bethesda and the world famous surfing lagoon at Surf Snowdonia. An info pack is sent out automatically to all our paying guests but drop me an email if you want a free copy.

Absolutely lovely couple of days at Town. Beautiful cottage, with great history. Warm and well equipped.
Didn’t want to attempt getting a Defender through the gateway, but plenty of parking at back of property. Good base to explore

  6. Maéve Jordan says:

Towyn is a beautiful cottage , beautifully positioned and very spacious. It is so well equipped and comfortable. We had a wonderful holiday last week there and couldn’t have been more satisfied. We particularly appreciated the picnic bench at the top of the garden with outstanding views of the sea, mountains and Criccieth Castle. It was just perfect and as the tune says, ‘We’re so damn lucky’ to have stayed there. We also met the owner who was very friendly too!

  7. Dean says:

The cottage is very well situated and is ideally located to enjoy Criccieth. The entrance to the drive is very tight with only a few inches to spare on either side, I found it difficult to judge the width available because the stone entrance pillars are narrower at the bottom than the top, I had to fold both mirrors in to access the drive with extreme caution, the negotiation of the entrance is made even more difficult because it is located on the main road into the town which can be busy. I think that the width of the entrance should be pointed out on the website, because in my opinion certain vehicles would find it impossible to access. I would recommend checking with the agents the width of the entrance before making your reservation.

  8. Roger Rees says:

Lovely spacious cottage with great garden. Would have benefited from having couple of garden chairs. Otherwise we’ll equipped and very comfortable. Perfect position for beach, town and Dylans.

  9. Gwendoline Knight says:

Lovely spacious cottage close to amenities. The kitchen was very spacious but we’d love a few more of those cooking kitchen essentials such as a sieve!Beautiful views and close to the beach.
