Holiday Cottage Near The Beach in Criccieth | Towyn

Towyn is a traditional two bedroom holiday cottage near the beach in Criccieth, North Wales. The cottage has big spacious living area and two comfortable bedrooms and is walking distance from a couple of pubs, some lovely restaurants and a small collection of local shops and delicatessens. A perfect location for a traditional seaside holiday.

In the living room, two comfortable sofas sit facing each other either side of a lovely real log fire. Whilst at the other end of the room, an impressive solid wood dining table and chairs sit in front of a large picture window looking seaward. The adjoining snug come lounge is smaller but still plenty of room for four people. This room includes that all important TV and a living flame gas fire this time. The fire is a lovely focal point naturally, but the modern central heating system will also provide more than enough heat through the entire house.

An original pastel blue enamelled Aga is a welcome addition to what is otherwise a thoroughly modern kitchen. Simple cream kitchen units under a beach effect worktop sit under double glazed windows facing out onto the lovely and mature rear garden. The breakfast table is a great option for more informal meal times or if you’re busy preparing a picnic for that family day on the beach.

There are two bedrooms in the cottage. One twin room and one double room. The double room is especially spacious with a double bed and lots of storage space. Both rooms are bright and airy and wonderfully quiet thanks to the thick stonewalls. The bathroom is split into two with a large shower cubicle and washbasin in one room and a WC and washbasin in a second room. A great arrangement if, like me, you have two teenage daughters who seem to spend forever in the shower.

The cottage has a lovely elevated garden to the rear of the house. Mature shrubs and lawn help frame a wonderfully informal outdoor space. Views of both the sea and Criccieth castle are the icing on the cake.

There is a nice collection of shops and delies in the village. Idris Café with its freshly baked bread and cakes is a favourite of mine. But if you want a bit more choice a short 10 minute drive along the coast road will bring you to the larger harbour towns of Pwllheli and Porthmadog. Both towns have the standard chain supermarkets as well as a mix of shops, pubs and restaurants.

If you get bored of the beach there’s lots to do in the area. Criccieth golf course is walking distance away from the cottage. Paint balling, cross-country Segway rides, animal pet farm, go karting and more are also nearby. Guests should book ahead for larger attractions such as the Zip Wire in Bethesda and the world famous surfing lagoon at Surf Snowdonia. An info pack is sent out automatically to all our paying guests but drop me an email if you want a free copy.

Lovely situation and well equipped cottage. Lovely to be able to walk out to the beach or town for food. Weather was pretty kind too! Probably just my wife, but mattress on double could do with being a tad more forgiving (mattress topper??) – has a bad back!! So more our problem, but lovely place and would thoroughly recommend to all who love Wales! We even got chance to enjoy a BBQ in the back garden!! Thanks so much!

  2. Linda McGuinness says:

What a lovely place to stay. The cottage was like home from home with all you would require for a relaxing holiday. The town of Criccieth was very nice with lots of little shops to browse and the beach area superb. Would certainly go again.

  3. Roger Hands says:

Lovely Cottage and very well appointed. Considering the nearness to the road the noise level was mainly un noticeable . Would highly recommend this property and will certainly be using Dioni again.

  4. David Manners says:

Lovely spacious cottage in a great location. Short walk from the beaches and Criccieth village. The cottage has been recently renovated and has everything you could require. No phone signal but a good wi-fi so you can stay in contact and I used my phone to listen to the radio via wi-fi (there is a TV). At the weekend the local restaurants are often fully booked (there are two chip shops) the closest restaurant Dylan’s can be booked on-line. Really enjoyed our stay and would return.

A truly lovely cottage – a short walk to the town centre, a very short walk to the beach and great sea views (especially from the top of the garden). The cottage is very spacious and airy, yet feels cosy too.

We all had a very comfortable week in the cottage and although the weather was not too kind, had a great time. The cottage was a home from home very spacious light and well decorated. It is a very enviable position with so many attractions on the doorstep.
