Holiday Cottage in Wild Snowdonia | Ysgubor-Goch

This beautiful barn has been converted into a very handsome holiday cottage in wild Snowdonia. A rugged farm track leads you up through a disused slate quarry and the mountains of Snowdonia to a haven of peace and tranquillity. Here a traditional welsh long barn as well as the main farmhouse nearby provides idyllic holiday accommodation for guests wanting to escape the hassle of modern life.

Holiday Cottage in Wild Snowdonia | Ysgubor-Goch

The barn has 4 bedrooms and can comfortably sleep up to 8 people. The conversion is imaginative and well thought out. Bedrooms are spacious and the open plan design of the living area creates a wonderfully sociable environment.

From the entrance hallway we turn left into the living area. This huge open plan area comprises lounge, dining and kitchen areas. The lounge houses some comfortable leather sofas, a modern flat screen TV as well as a warming log fire. Overhead a suspended walkway connects the first floor bedrooms whilst preserving the sense of space afforded by vaulted ceilings.

The dining area comes next. A wooden table surrounded by eight country cottage chairs is overlooked by a traditional welsh dresser. And from here we walk through to the kitchen area. All the appliances you could ask for are included. Fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc. are all there. The washer dryer is housed in the adjoining utility room.

Returning across the entrance hallway we have a very spacious ground floor twin room. The adjoining bathroom with shower and wc ensures that any guests with mobility problems can be comfortably accommodated.

An open tread wooden staircase takes us to the three first floor bedrooms. One double room and one twin room occupy the southern end of the barn. That suspended walkway then takes us across to another spacious double bedroom and a luxurious bathroom. The bathroom has a wc, bath and separate shower cubicle. All the bedrooms are immaculately clean and tidy and a modern central heating system ensures guests feel warm and cosy even in the depths of winter.

Location

A short 3 minute drive will bring you to lake Cwellyn car park. The famous Snowdon Ranger path up Snowdon starts here. This westerly route up the mountain is often favoured by more experience walkers to the busier eastern routes on the other side of the mountain.

A little further is the next village of Rhyd Ddu. Another pub, another route up Snowdon plus the opportunity to jump on the Welsh Highland Railway, a narrow gauge steam railway that runs between the larger towns of Porthmadog and Caernarfon, along, what must be, one of the most picturesque railway routes in the world.

Caernarfon is about 6 miles away from the cottage to the North (15 mins in the car). The famous castle is a natural ‘must do’ but lots of shops, cafes and restaurants are also there. 15 miles to the south is the bustling seaside town of Porthmadog. Again, plenty of shopping opportunities as well as the popular sandy beaches of Borth Y Guest and Black Rock.

The fastest zip line in the world, internationally renowned white water rafting and premier down hill mountain biking are just some of the more adrenaline enducing activities also available in the area.

Our holiday was fantastic in North Wales. The cottage is situated in a peaceful setting with only sheep to be herd. The cottage was clean, comfortable and we’ll equipped. I would definitely recommend it to anybody wanting to just get away and relax.

  2. Phil says:

This cottag is ideal for a family gathering, large enough to accommodate, with a high level privacy. The location is stunning, with specular views. The location is important as its within easy reach of many of Snowdonia attractions.
Managed to find excellent ice creams in Beddgelert and Conwy, and many exhilarating attractions from bouncing to zipping.
    Would highly recommend.

Stayed for a week in late April. Fabulous accommodation well appointed, ideal for a large family gathering, made easy with well laid out and open planning. Ideally suituated for touring North Wales.
Difficult to take advantage in a week of all that Snowdonia has to offer, and that’s not including superior ice creams in Beddgelert and Conwy!!!!

    Love it.

  5. Maurice Power says:

We have just enjoyed a long weekend at this fantastic barn conversion. there were seven adults in our party and we had room and facilities for all. The conversion is superb and you feel right at home. We spent hours wandering the fields and listening to the lambs.
If you’re looking for a secluded base to explore North Wales, or to just chill, then this is perfect.

Just back from 5 nights at the barn . What a fantastic place it is . At the end of a farm track and surrounded by fields which were great for walking with our dog. Close to some fantastic beaches. Nefyn was our personal favourite. The barn has all the facilities and everything you need for a great holiday. We would definitely recommend it.

Wonderful accomodation that worked terrifically for our group of six on a walking trip. Plenty of space for sleeping; nice to have two showers to use; and plenty of space for cooking and relaxing afterwards. Well priced and well maintained.

bit late with this review lol! we stayed in this cottage in the summer and it was fantastic! lots of space for or granddaughter to run around in and she loved watching the sheep shearing. a truly stunning, peaceful and very private location. we have been holidaying in north wales for over twenty years and can honestly say that this was the best cottage we have ever rented. excellent service and the dioni website and booking process provided us with all the information and support we needed to make our initial choice and booking. the thing that really sold it to us was the video preview of all of the cottages. we were attracted by the quality and location of this cottage and will definitely use their services again next year. many thanks to dioni and the owners of the cottage for our best holiday in north wales to date.

Such a beautiful cottage in a peaceful location!
Spotlessly clean and well appointed, especially grateful for the hot tub after trekking up Snowdon!
A couple of sharp knives in the kitchen are the only things we missed.
Walks from the cottage itself were lovely, and the short distance to the Rhyd ddu and Snowdon Ranger paths made it ideal for some lovely walking.
Hope to be back again someday!

  10. Keith Burnett says:

Fantastic cottage, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Stunning and idyllic location – wish we could have stayed longer!

  11. Dan & Jill says:

Had a lovely stay in the cottage, only 2 of us so plenty of room! Weather was perfect, situation really good for both Rhyd Ddu and Snowdon Ranger tracks up Snowdon and spent a whole day in near by Beddgelert. Cottage was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed. Thanks for a lovely stay, hopefully we’ll be back next year will certainly recommend to friends.

One addition I would suggest would be some plastic glasses to use outside, otherwise it had everything we needed.
