Luxurious Self Catering Accommodation on a Working Farm | Faeldre

Faeldre offers some truly luxurious self catering accommodation on a working farm and only a short drive from the beach. The westernmost corner of this large and historic farmhouse has been recently renovated into a 3 bedroom holiday cottage.

The spectacular sea views from the large picture windows combined with tastful decor, original features and luxurious modern touches creates a perfect base for your Snowdonia holiday.

You enter the cottage through a central porched doorway. The lounge is to the left, the kitchen-diner is to the right. In the lounge, two modern leather sofas sit facing onto a large flat screen TV on a plush new carpet. Whilst in the kitchen-diner the square dining table and chairs sit on a more traditional slate floor. Modern kitchen units house all the essential appliances. The slate flooring continues on into the ground floor bathroom. This includes a nice yet simple suit and a large walk in shower. All the slate flooring in kitchen, bathroom and hallway are heated underfloor – so rest assured you will have a warm and cosy welcome!

A second bathroom can be found on the first floor landing. Again we have a large walk in shower as well as a separate bath. Everything is beautifully tiled is soft subtle shades and includes underfloor heating.

3 bedrooms upstairs. The double bedroom, like everywhere else, is beautifully decorated and has the luxury of a walk in wardrobe. The twin room is in the older part of the house and, as a result, has a lovely high ceiling and a tall grand window, helping guests enjoy that spectacular sea view. The third single bedroom is smaller and should probably be classed as a child’s room although it has a full sized bed.

Location

The cottage is at the end of a private drive leading off the Cambrian coast road half way between Harlech and Barmouth on the western edge of Snowdonia. Llanbedr, the nearest village has a butchers, post office and small grocery shop as well as two pubs serving food. The larger towns of Barmouth and Harlech offer a wider selection of shops and restaurants perhaps and are 10 minutes away by car.

The area’s most obvious draw is the miles of beautifully clean sandy beaches nearby. Many walkers will also naturally head towards Snowdon during their stay, a 35 minute drive to the north. But guests should also take the opportunity to explore the rugged Rhinog mountains which are just behind the cottage.

Other activities within a short car journey include mountain biking at Coed Y Brenin, white water rafting at Tryweryn and pony trekking in Betws Y Coed. Smaller independent activity providers will also take you gorge walking, kite surfing, climbing etc. Two many to mention.

You can’t drive for more than five minutes in this area without passing an ancient burial ground, castle or some sort of historic monument. And our more recent industrial past can be re-lived with trips on narrow gauge steam railways and by exploring underground slate mines.

Or, you could just sit on the patio, read a book, drink a glass of wine and watch the sun go down.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Faeldre. The accommodation is lovely. Character with all the modern amenities. Very impressed with the well equipped kitchen (usually not the case in a holiday let!). Bathrooms were both finished to a very high standard. Fantastic views across the farm to the sea beyond and easy access to Snowdonia and the wider area. Fantastic part of Wales – highly recommended.

We’ve just had a great week at Faeldre with our two young children. They loved being on a working farm and looking out the window each morning to see what was going on and we loved the amazing house – so comfortable, clean and thoughtfully furnished. Great location too with fantastic beaches on the doorstep and within easy travelling distance of castles, trains and seaside towns! Thanks for a great stay.

  3. M. Teall says:

A truly wonderful place to stay, accommodation was sensational, tranquil and relaxing environment, welcome was lovely with cake, butter & cheese waiting for us on arrival, stunning scenery, beautiful places to visit, only one place for us to stay next time, would highly recommend this beautiful place.

We have just enjoyed a fantastic half term break at this lovely, comfortable cottage. It’s location enables you to enjoy seaside, mountains and rolling countryside. Lots of activities for children in the area especially the fantastic ‘Bounce Below’ in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Beautiful walks in Snowdonia and along the coast. Looking forward to returning and exploring more and we would definitely choose Faeldre again.

  6. Ursula says:

We spent a week at Faeldre Farm in July and it was just fantastic! The area is absolutely gorgeous with lots of things to do and Faeldre was just perfect for the five of us. A lovely home away from home which we can definitely recommend!

Just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at Faeldre and really loved every minute. Cottage was well presented with everything we could have needed. Thank you for the Welsh treats on arrival too. Perfect location for our little boy who loved seeing the sheep, watching the shearing and talking to the friendly hens every morning. We used the cottage to explore mainly the area to the north and can highly recommend Abersoch, Portmeirion, Criccieth (especially Dylan’s restaurant), the Ffestioniog Railway, as well as the beautiful local beaches. Our visit to Llangollen standard gauge railway was also worth the longer trip. Still so much we could have done if only we could have stayed longer so sure we will return in the future.

  10. Karen & Ade says:

Faeldre is a lovely spacious cottage in a great location. The stillness and wonderful views were just what we needed to escape the rush of the rat race. The property also wins best view from a wardrobe ( check out the sunset from the master bedroom wardrobe). We used the property as a springboard into the hills for walking and also down to the wonderful beach at Llandanwg.

  11. Mrs R Parker says:

We loved the cottage it had everything we needed, the owners next door were friendly & helpful. The views from the cottage were amazing & it made a good base for us to go exploring around that part of Wales! We would definitely return there!

  12. Deborah and Margaret says:

We have just returned from a short break at Faeldre – what an absolutely fabulous cottage! Everything was very clean and well kept, comfortable and cosy. Delightful combination of rustic charm and modern comforts. Thank you for the little additional treats too, lovely surprise and most welcoming. The owners were genuinely friendly and helpful. It was most interesting to stay on a working farm. We already knew the area and can recommend the Welsh Highland and Ffestioniog Railways, as well as the beautiful local beaches, Harlech and Caernarvon castles and the area’s slate mines and heritage. The only downside was that we had not booked the cottage for longer! Would love to return soon! Diolch yn fawr.
