Luxury Holiday Cottage Near Newborough on Anglesey | Cae Dwyran

A big, handsome stone cottage, Cae Dwyran is tucked away in the most idyllic, secluded location at the end of a no-through road. Surrounded by trees and big skies, it comes with far-reaching views of the Anglesey countryside.

Inside, everything is beautifully presented. There are some lovely touches that give the cottage a real story and character – we love the mix of antique and contemporary furniture, the inglenook fireplace, wood burning stoves and exposed beams. And the three-metre dining table made from 5,000 year old bog oak is a real showstopper in the kitchen diner.

Quite apart from being an absolute beauty of a property, Cae Dwyran is just a five minute drive from one of Europe’s finest beaches. Newborough beach – Traeth Llanddwyn – is a blue flag award winner which comes with its own romantic island and a spectacular mountain backdrop. It’s a seriously beautiful part of the world.

Downstairs, there is plenty of room for everyone to feel comfortable and spread out. There is a large lounge with flat screen TV and large comfortable sofas which demand to be sunk into. There are three further snug areas, one of which is arranged around a very inviting inglenook fireplace and woodburner. There is also a games room with a snooker table, and a downstairs loo.

The kitchen diner is a place of beauty: a really large bright space which has clearly been designed with entertaining in mind, and is home to that fabulous dining table. There is a range cooker, a central island workspace, and all the gadgets and gizmos you could possibly need. Patio doors open out from the kitchen onto a fabulous dining terrace.

Upstairs, there are three large double bedrooms and a family or children’s bedroom which sleeps up to four. If you are making the booking, you might want to make sure you get the master bedroom which comes with a super king sized bed as well as a magnificent apex window and views of the garden and beyond. It also has a smart en-suite bathroom. There is a further good sized family bathroom with a bath and walk in shower.

Outside of this luxury holiday cottage near Newborough on Anglesey, you get three acres of garden to explore, including a wildflower meadow and a tidal river. Location

If you don’t know Ynys Môn – or Anglesey – already, you’re in for a treat. The largest island in Wales, it is just a short drive from the Welsh mainland, but a million miles away from the daily grind.

The coastline here is great for wildlife watching, with regular sightings of grey seals (usually in the autumn) and bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoise (usually in summer). The Anglesey Coastal Path is a great way to explore the island, though you might want to take on its 130-mile route in bitesize chunks.

Newborough Warren is a 5-minute drive from the house. This is a place where pine trees roll down to enormous sandy dunes, golden sands and the tiny Llanddwyn Island. It is a fantastic place. Legend has it that in the 5th century, Llanddwyn was home to Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Now it is home to a beautiful Celtic cross, a lighthouse, wild ponies and the most spectacular mountain views. Seal sightings here are common. And look out for red squirrels too. You can walk to the island at low tide.

The nearest town to this luxury holiday cottage near Newborough on Anglesey, is Menai Bridge. As well as its iconic bridge, you’ll find plenty of independent shops, and some great places to eat. The Liverpool Arms is an impressive gastropub, and you can’t beat the fantastic waterside setting of Dylan’s, which is famous for its pizzas and seafood. There is a Waitrose supermarket in the town.

Head a little further along the coast to Beaumaris for Georgian elegance, nice boutiques, galleries, gift shops and stunning views across the Menai Strait to the Snowdonia mountains. It is worth making time for afternoon tea at the Bulkeley Arms Hotel – make sure you sit in the drawing room at the back of the hotel to sup your tea with spectacular mountain views.

If you like to eat out on your hols you’ll find plenty of fantastic places to eat on Anglesey, from fine dining at the award-winning Bull in Beaumaris, to rustic chic at The Marram Grass near Newborough, which is run by Great British Menu chef Ellis Barrie and his brother Liam.

Adventure seekers might want to check out windsurfing, surfing and kite surfing at Rhosneigr, or to take a high-speed boat trip down the Menai Strait with Rib Ride. Zip World Velocity is a short drive away in Bethesda. There are plenty of local specialists offering activities like coasteering, kayaking and gorge scrambling.
