Pretty Holiday Cottage Near Llanberis | Mel-Y-Beran

Mel Y Beran is a pretty three bedroom holiday cottage near Llanberis. This three story, white washed stone cottage is set in the middle of the beautiful Snowdonia landscape. Slightly off the beaten track, it has everything needed for a wonderful country escape. Beautiful views, surrounded by lush green mountains, far from the madding crowd, log fires, no neighbours, lots of space and plenty of fresh air.

Pretty Four Bedroom Holiday Cottage Near Llanberis | Mel-Y-Beren

Just on the outskirts of Llanberis, you are well positioned to take advantage of many of Snowdonia’s star attractions; climbing Snowdon being one of them. But only a 15-minute drive from the larger towns of Bangor and Caernarfon means that you have easy access to everything you need whilst still being able to enjoy that element of solitude and escapism that is only in the middle of the Snowdonia mountains can offer.

As you come into the cottage through the front door, you enter straight into the sitting room. A nice light and airy room, big comfy sofas and the all essential log fire to complete the country retreat feel. Leading directly from the sitting room is the L-shaped kitchen dinner.

At one end of the L-shape is a seating area with two armchairs and a traditional Welsh dresser – this is a great place to sit with a glass of wine in the evening or a coffee in the morning away from the larger group. The kitchen is modern with white, wooden effect units against a grey workshop. In terms of appliances, there is everything you need to make the most of your stay here and cook up a storm for the group. The dining section is at the other end of the L-shape where you will find a large wooden table, 2 benches and 2 chairs so that the whole group can come together to enjoy those meals in the evenings.

Up the stairs to the first floor, there are 3 bedrooms. Two double and one twin. Carpets throughout, it has a very cosy feel upstairs and all the bedrooms benefit from wrought iron beds, light coloured furniture set against lovely bed linen and soft furnishings. Needless to say, there are some pretty amazing views of the mountains to be had from this floor. Just the one bathroom in this property but it’s nice and spacious. It has the added luxury of a freestanding bath as well as the usual shower, WC and washbasin – all beautifully finished with modern appliances.

The rear of the garden is accessed by a gentle sloping path with steps on one side and from the rear patio by steeper steps.

Location

The cottage has a lovely outside patio with tables and chairs which make the perfect place for a bit of al fresco eating looking out over the wonderful landscape. Children will love the freedom and outside space the cottage offers to run around and explore. There’s a lovely brook running through the back garden but small toddlers will naturally need to be supervised at all times.

Being so near to Llanberis, you are on the doorstep of so many wonderful places and things to do in Snowdonia. As we mentioned earlier, climbing Snowdon is on most guests itinerary and you’re only 10 minutes away from the start of the PYG track which if you have children in the mix, is definitely the route you will want to have a look at.

In Llanberis itself, you have the famous Llyn Padan where you’ll find lots of watersports on offer. The National Slate mine is also here where you can visit for free and learn how enormous and important the industry was to the area and the world. They also offer lots of workshops and crafty things to do. In the town itself, there are lots of places to eat and great shops to go and mooch around in.

15 minutes drive will bring you to Caernarfon where of course you have the castle along with a medieval town which again has some great places to visit including the harbour and marina along with the town centre where there are again some lovely places to eat and drink.

15 minutes in the other direction takes you to Bangor where you will find the Menai Bridge if visiting Anglesey is of interest to you. Bethesda is just down the road which is home to the first Zip World zip-line. If you’ve been tempted to give it a go, then now is the time!

In and around the area, there are plenty of opportunities for walking, climbing, running, cycling, kayaking etc – there are lots of good and reputable providers too should you want to take advantage of these things. It would be worth looking at the Things to do in Llanberis and Things to do in Caernarfon posts on our blog for a break down of everything on offer in the area.

This is a hidden gem of a holiday cottage. Immaculately clean throughout, and the most helpful owners, who were incredibly supportive after our arrival was delayed by a few hours. This is far more spacious than the photographs give the impression of, and is well-furnished and kitted out. It’s also a superb base for exploring the area, rain or shine. We loved the garden, especially the front table, with accompanying stunning sunsets (and the brook in the back).

  2. Maxine Faulkner says:

This is a utterly stunning property. The gardens are beautiful, with so many flowers and a little stream, topped off with the views. Inside the property every room was lovely and has everything you could possibly need. We were greeted by a gift hamper and fresh flowers in the dining room and bedroom. Great added touch by the very attentive hosts. Couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended!

  3. Mrs. Bennetts says:

A wonderful place – the pictures don’t really do justice to the views from this lovely cottage. Just watching the sea and sunset from the top floors, or the rotating cast of animals (lambs, cows, and the occasional rabbit) from the kitchen is a great pastime.

Comfortable enough for a large family, and spotlessly clean.

  4. Grant Family says:

16th March – 19th March 2020 – what a lovely welcome, great few days away with the family. Amazing views over breakfast, wonderful log fire – weather was ‘lush’.
This really is a home from home, honestly, one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Cleanliness and everything thought of, from stair gates to hairdryers and it’s the best shower I’ve had in ages! The hamper on arrival did the trick and the honey is to die for (we will definitely be sending for some more) also will be in touch for Beekeeping advice. Only sad part about this holiday is that we have to cut it short due to ‘corona virus’ and a need to be home. Nothing can stop us from coming back again, can’t wait , also can’t recommend it enough to people we know. You have both created a real hidden gem – one word to sum everything up “Lush”.
PS: The welcome gift for our grandson was very welcome and shows what lovely people own this cottage!”
