Romantic One Bedroom Barn Conversion Near Barmouth | Melin-Byrdir

A stone step leads us through a glass doorway. A living flame gas fire sits on a welsh slate hearth to your right. A luxurious leather sofa sits to your left (don’t ask how we got the sofa through the narrow entrance). An impressive stone opening reaching from floor to ceiling takes us into a small dining area. The circular dining table and chairs must have one of the best views in Wales.

Turning back into the main living area we circle the central staircase into the kitchen area. The kitchen is small but well equipped and includes a combination oven, grill and microwave along with an electric hob, fridge and dishwasher. An adjacent ground floor bathroom has a modern white bathroom suite with power shower.

As steep wooden staircase leads us up into the vaulted ceiling of the barn. The stairway has an alternating step design so may not suit guests with mobility problems. The original and exposed oak beams of the barn flank a low slung king sized bed. White Egyptian cotton sheets and an uninterrupted view of the setting sun ensures a comfortable and romantic end to your day.

A large shared car park with bike storage facilities is exited via a private pathway that leads down to a beautiful secluded garden. A large patio with outdoor table and chairs eventually gives way to an expanse of lawn with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. Neighbouring farm animals are a popular distraction but guests should make the effort to explore the surrounding countryside either by foot or in the car.

There are lots of walks that can be enjoyed from the farm. There are maps and guides available in the cottage. Guests can wonder up to the rugged Rhinog Mountains or meander down through the village, which is about a mile from the farm, then onto the miles of sandy beaches that we have in this part of North Wales.

The village provides all the basic needs for our guests. There’s a small grocery store, an excellent butchers, a post office, a garage, cafés and a pub serving food. If you want more choice, a 15-minute journey in the car will take you to the bustling seaside town of Barmouth. A 15-minute drive to the north will take you to the renowned castle town of Harlech. Both towns have a slightly larger selection of shops, cafes and restaurants.

This part of north wales is of course famous for outdoor activities. You can be zip lining at 100mph eighty feet above the ground in the morning and exploring historic slate caverns one mile below ground in the afternoon. Spend one-day white water rafting down the fierce Tryweryn River and the next climbing up the steep slopes of Snowdon. You might prefer to throw yourself down the testing mountain biking trails of Coed Y Brenin or you might prefer a more relaxing day riding the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Steam train up to Tan Y Bwlch. The worlds your lobster here in Snowdonia!

Absolutely delightful little place to spend a quiet week exploring the North Welsh coast. It was great to meet all the farm animals who kept me company on the sunny terrace after a days out walking. The views were spectacular and the hot tub, once I finally got it hot enough was wonderful to sit in and gaze up at the stars. Thank you and I hope to return again.

We stayed here over the Easter weekend and clearly hit the jackpot when it comes to weather-glorious sunshine for four days! But I think we hit the jackpot on the cottage and its surroundings too-what a lovely place. We loved all the visiting animals and even found Pauline’s snoring rather relaxing background noise!
The welcome basket was very much appreciated (yummy cake and eggs!) and the accommodation was very clean and tidy.
The hot tub did take rather a long time to heat up but was a great way to relax (especially after a day climbing Snowdon), with a beautiful view.
    A really wonderful long weekend.

I am sat here in the cottage now writing my review.(yep I’m so cozy).I don’t have to wait till I leave because nothing could spoil what we have already experienced.Pauline the pig has had her fruit and treats already today from us but she weren’t up for the hot tub last night. Dell the dog managed to make his new ball from our trip out yesterday in Harlech(15mins down road) last 2 mins which is longer than the stick we found on llanbedr beach.I am in ore here with the chickens and ducks. I have just seen there are cows with 2 calves and I’m off for close up tomorrow. Gotta say the most difficult thing is not letting Dell in as he always sits on the doorstep but never tries to get in unlike the duck sorry Louise but he sidelined us plus Dell was chasing him at the time lol.Hot tub took a while but OMG gail force winds from storm Gareth blowing on ya face as ya body submerged in gorgeous hot water is surreal. The cottage is sublime one thing to mention also is water pressure fantastic and always hot.Views outstanding whilst eating from dining room or waking up in bed and the sea is right there.I would move in perminant. Thanks to Louise and family for allowing this amazing space of tranquil serenity to be refurbished from old to new fabulous. Welcome hamper brill allergic to eggs but bet they would be lovely because there is no fault anywhere to be had. Can not wait to return maybe in summer then I won’t have to warm the tub lol

    Thank you again

Smashing weekend spent in a lovely cottage. Great place to spend the last weekend of my 40’s. Thrilled to have Pauline as a neighbor, I love a good pig! Great area, lovely beaches. Yummy food at The Last Inn, Barmouth. I fear we were doomed from the start but we did attempt to hot the tub on Friday evening but alas we failed. TV reception is a bit hit and miss but when you can look out the window and watch a red kite it doesn’t seem to matter. You could always take some dvds. All in all it was just splendid. Would absolutely recommend Dioni to anyone and everyone. Thanks
