Romantic One Bedroom Cottage Near The Beach | Derwen

Entering through the hand crafted oak stable door brings you into an open plan sitting room and dining area with an impressive oak spiral staircase up to the first floor. The large wood burner takes centre stage in this room which gives warmth to the minimal, yet very stylish interior. Slate floors, oak beams, large sofa and lovely furniture pieces all work towards giving this space a very comfortable feel; the tide clock will no doubt come in handy when planning your beach walks and the surround sound system is going to turn those DVD evenings into more of a cinema experience!

The galley kitchen at the end of the house has everything you will need and expect, including hob, oven, dishwasher etc along with a waterfilter tap. The finish is in-keeping with the rest of the cottage; modern and minimal with a homely feel.

Up the spiral staircase takes us to a beautiful bedroom with apex ceiling, creating a lovely sense of space and light. The arched doorway to the bathroom adds to the charm of this room. Simple oak furniture and bed linen all work well together to create a very calming space. The two large wadrobes provode plenty of storage space and the remote controlled velux windows and blackout blinds will certainly help you get a good nights sleep.

The en-suite bathroom has a large walk in digital rain shower; modern fittings combined with oak fixtures again fit with the rest of the house.

The garden, home to exotic plants like jasmine, passion flowers, palms and banana plants is a lovely place to relax when taking in the evening sun with a drink on the patio.

The blue flag beach makes for great beach days and is especially good for watersports such as windsurfing and sailing. The famous Fairbourne Narrow Gauge Steam Railway still runs daily.

This part of southern Snowdonia has spectacular landscape making it a walkers paradise. Less crowded than the slopes of Snowdon, the mountains in this part of the national park provide a real opportunity to explore the true wilderness of Wales.

A short 10 minute drive will take you into the more populated town of Dolgellau. Steeped in welsh history the town hosts a farmers market and is home to some delightful shops cafes and pubs. Corris, another nearby village, has the well known ‘Centre for Alternative Technology’ as well as a small craft village and ‘King Arthurs Labyrinth’, an underground tour certain to capture a child’s imagination.

The popular seaside towns of Aberdyfi and Towyn are a short drive to the south west. Bala, to the east, is famous for its fishing and whitewater rafting and the world renowned mountain biking trails of Coed Y Brenin are about 30 minutes to the north.

I had a wonderful 2 week stay at this cottage. It is indeed luxury. I found it very comfortable and quiet, even though it is on a main road. The wifi was excellent throughout the cottage and the kitchen exceptionally well-equipped. The shops in the village stocked a very nice variety and the butcher excellent. I also enjoyed several very good meals in The Penrhyn and their staff was very friendly. The owner of the cottage also very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to book again.

Thanks for your kind review Debby. We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday. I remember you experienced all the seasons during your two week stay! Thanks for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy. Hope to see you back at Tan Y Dderwen sometime soon. And yes the locals in Fairbourne are very welcoming and the butcher does great steaks!

Hope you’re having a great summer.

      Kind regards

      Jo and John

We had a lovely quiet and cosy weekend at the cottage. It is just perfect inside – beautifully and tastefully renovated to a very high standard. The furnishings and fittings are high quality, even down to the finishing touches such as the reed diffusers and hand soap. The cottage had a few Christmas decorations up which was a lovely surprise when we arrived. It felt very festive with the wreaths and lights.

The little touches were also very welcome: the prosecco and chocolate cake left in the fridge. Such a lovely thought.

Everything about the cottage was perfect. We had a quiet weekend with a little walking on the beach and a visit to Dolgellau and Barmouth. Perfect for me as I have a problem with my back so can no longer walk for miles and miles.

I have no criticisms at all as it really is a beautiful place to stay, however it might be worth putting in the details about the property that logs are not included for the log burner. Not an issue as we were able to buy them at the shop in the village but probably worth mentioning in the details.

We will keep my eyes open for the new property currently being renovated as it looks like the kind of place we would like to stay in.

    Thank you again.

    Darren and Tracie Ellis

This has been our first season for the cottage and we are delighted that are guests love it as much as we do.

Happy Christmas to all our guests and hope to see you in the New Year.

  6. Sandra & Stephen says:

Beautiful cottage, Everything we needed was provided. We had a fantastic week relaxing, there are lovely walks nearby, the village it’s in is only small but we found it very welcoming. We visited lots of places up and down the coast, some we walked to (Barmouth),some we drove to, but if you don’t want to drive the rail station is 5 minutes walk away and you can get up and down the coast of Cardigan bay easily. The cottage is very well equipped & we could recommend it without hesitation. We would visit this cottage again – a lovely holiday.

  11. Donna Pimlott says:

This cottage is exceptional first class everything furnished and kitted out to a very high standard the bottle of prosecco fresh milk chocolates tea and coffee was an added unexpected but very welcome touch. It rained all day in our 2bd day but being stick indoors was not a problem as it’s so nice. My only criticism and I am nit picking here was the check out time on Sunday 10am was a bit rushed for us. I thoroughly recommend it

  12. Nan and Mike Nawrocki says:

We thought the cottage was lovely – comfortable and stylish, with everything provided to make our week a relaxing break away from it all. Loved the luxury bathroom, good sound system, and the chilled Prosecco in the fridge was a nice touch! We were unfamiliar with the area so enjoyed exploring by car and rail, which was so easy with Fairbourne station being so close.
