Seafront Holiday Cottage North Wales | Yr-Odyn

Seafront Holiday Cottage North Wales | Yr-Odyn

Renovated and furnished to a very high standard and surrounded by a large lawned garden, this seafront holiday cottage North Wales provides the perfect base from which to enjoy this unique and idyllic North Wales holiday location. Aberdesach is in a tiny little hamlet called on the northern edge of the Llyn Peninsula, about 5 miles south of Caernarfon. The spot is thankfully a bit of a secret hideaway so keep it under your hat for now.

Things to do in Pwllheli | Snowdonia Information Pack

Guests approach the cottage via a small footbridge over the river Desach before entering through a small sunny conservatory. A natural retreat in the morning if the sun’s out but the wind is still a bit too fresh. From here we enter a large kitchen diner. On the left a warming log fire sits within the original inglenook fireplace whilst straight ahead a handsome set of dining tables and chairs sits under some fabulous oil paintings painted by David, the owner of the cottage. (Some truly fantastic images.) To the right we have a sleek modern kitchen complete with a large gas fueled cooking range. A real treat for any eager chefs. A large free standing fridge freezer sits in the adjoining utility room as well as a useful Belfast sink and washer dryer.

From here we walk through some striking glass saloon doors into the adjoining lounge. The lounge is on the seaward side of the house. A large picture window looks west out onto the dramatic coastline barely 50m away from the property. A second picture window ensures the room is bathed in light throughout the day and luxurious seating and some tasteful decorative features make the space a pleasure to be in. A modern flame effect fire and flat screen TV are perfect companions once you’ve watched the sun dripping into a coppery sea.

We walk back through to the kitchen diner to get to the three bedrooms. First, we have the smaller twin bedroom. No steps to get to this point so perfect for anybody with mobility problems. The bathroom on the opposite side of the hallway has a walk in shower, wc and washbasin. A modern powerful boiler has been fitted in the utility room so plenty of hot water and heating is provided.

A couple of steps lead us to the two double bedrooms. Both are very spacious, both have king sized divan beds and both have impressively large mirrored wardrobes. The first bedroom has a shower over bath in the en-suite bathroom whilst the second has a walk in shower cubicle. Everything from the quality of the linen to the choice of bedside lamps down to the tiling in the bathroom is immaculate. P.S. The sea views from the second bedroom of this seafront holiday cottage North Wales are arguably even better as the room enjoys a slightly elevated position.

As mentioned, Aberdesach is a bit of a secret, handed down from generation to generation of only a few groups of holidaymakers. And you can see why. This small stretch of unspoilt coastline is refreshingly free of any commercial exploitation. So you have to promise only to tell your closest friends and family if you come and stay with us here. As beautiful as the coastline is you should try and explore a bit further afield during your stay. The town of Caernarfon and it’s famous medieval castle is about 15 minutes to the north. Whilst the sailing harbour town of Pwllheli is about 15 minutes to the south. There are many small tourism businesses set up in the area. Craft outlets like the slate workshops at Indigo Jones and activity centres like Glasslyn go carting track and the Hafan indoor play center are all within a 15 minute drive. The mountains of Snowdonia are also a must do. Most people head up Snowdon from Llanberis on the far side of the mountain, some 20 mins away by car, but an assent from the nearer Rhyd-Ddu offers a path less travelled for experienced walkers. The nearby Clynnog mountain range is also very popular with keen walkers.

The Yr-Odyn owners also have a smaller property next door which can be booked in conjunction with the main house please follow this link to see Yr-Odyn-Bach

30th May-6th June. We had a wonderful time at Yr-Odyn. The weather was not good until Tuesday but the house was so comfortable it didn’t spoil our enjoyment. Four generations loved it!!! Every comfort was catered for. The location is amazing as are the sunsets.
We enjoyed walks at the nearby country park and meals at The Harp hotel. David’s paintings are amazing! A really beautiful house we had a very relaxing time, everyone re-charged their batteries ha ha. Big thank you to David the owner, and all the team at Dioni.

We have just come back from a week at Yr-Odyn.The bungalow was the best we have ever stayed in. Very spacious , clean and everything possible had been thought of. In our party were 4 adults 3 children , 14, 9 and 7 months and 1 dog. There was plenty of space for all of us. The weather was excellent and we managed to get out every day. Five of us managed the walk up and down Snowdon It was too cold for the baby so my daughter in law had to come back with him after getting half way.

The beach at Aberdesach is very stony with sandy areas at low tide. We enjoyed many walks along the beach. Lots of birds to see and I was very lucky to see a hen harrier by the fields at the top of the footpath.

I would highly recommend a stay here.

I am very reluctant to write a good review about our stay at Yr Odyn because I want to keep this special place a secret for myself! This is a Beautifully renovated cottage in a peaceful, tranquil location right next to the sea. A lot of thought has gone into the design of this cottage to make it welcoming and the perfect place for a break. The most comfortable beds, spotlessly clean and plenty of space for six of us. We hope to be back very soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  4. Donna Bosley says:

We have just stayed at the cottage for half term week. 4 adults and one dog.
Everyone had a lovely time. The property was so comfortable, spacious and open plan that we did not want to leave. We spent many cosy nights with the wind whipping around and a log fire lit, listening to the waves on the beach.
This is a beautiful refurbishment with the owner’s excellent artwork dotted around. Great sea and mountain views.
Snowdonia was our focus for the week and there are a few access roads into it all within easy reach from Aberdesoch.
Try the local Harp hotel and pub in Dinas Dillas for great home cooking or for something special Blas restaurant for fine dining in Caernarfon all reasonably priced.
Most of all I found the local people to be warm and welcoming.
Definitely the best UK break we have experienced in a few years

  5. Ian Gordon says:

We have recently – and VERY reluctantly – returned from a two week stay at Yr Odyn. We absolutely fell in love with the cottage and the location. If we don’t manage to move to the area (which we very much hope to do) we will definitely be going there again.

Great property, great location and lovely weather.
    Would love to return.

  7. Brenda North Yorkshire says:

We really enjoyed our week at Yr-Odyn. In fact its the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Lots of space, really comfy beds, and everything we could possibly need. So much thought gone into making the cottage really special for guests. I sat outside each night and watched the sun set over the sea. We had five sunny days in our week, so we had a wonderful week.
We were out and about each day, so much to do without having to drive far.
We so enjoyed the peace and quiet, all you can hear is the sound of the sea lapping onto the shore at night.
    Just wonderful!

  8. Pauline,Chester says:

We have enjoyed a perfect break at Yr-Odyn.We loved the cottage and felt at home straight away.
It was very quiet and sat in the cottage reading with the windows open you could here the sea.
    How perfect.

  9. Brian Bell says:

Just finished a week at the cottage and have to say it was excellent. The furnishings throughout the cottage were finished off to exceptional standards and was extremely comfortable, so mush so we didn’t want to leave.

Location is out of the way and not near any local amenities but this was of no consequence to us and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. It is close enough to Caernarfon for shopping and is roughly a 10 minute drive away.

Plenty to do in the area with a trip to Abersoch for a nice chilled day for those who are after a quieter time. We did activities everyday and all three children (15,12,8) found stuff they all wanted to do and all within a relatively short drive.

The cottage comfortably accommodated six of us and I can not rate it highly enough.

  10. Maggi says:

Just returned from a weeks stay at Yr Odyn, we left very reluctantly! It is the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Beautiful location and so clean! We had fantastic sunsets most nights, loved the Artwork and the dogs loved the beach. We will definitely be back!

  11. Stephen says:

We stayed over Easter 2014 and had amazing weather !! Lots of sun.

The house is great, it has only just been reonvated so everything is brand new and good quality. Well equipped kitchen and laundry room. Comfy beds and very good bathrooms. Outside is lots of grass with a large sheltered outside table and bbq area.

The beach outside the house is sandy when the tide is out ( large stones when tide is in ) and is great for dog walking and cricket!!

Nearest town is Caernarfon ( 10 mins drive ), which has big new Tesco’s for shopping and petrol garage / small shop 3 mins drive down the road in the next small village.

Our recommendations are walking on Snowdon, beach at Llanbedrog, beer at Ty Coch Inn!!

Hopefully we will back again… Thanks.

  12. Michelle Loader, Cheshire says:

Stayed at Yr Odyn for a long weekend, but wished it could have been for longer. Ideally situated on the edge of a quiet beach in Aberdesach, overlooking the sea, with picturesque views from all angles. The interior of the property has been finished to a high standard, and is a beautifully warm, comfortable and relaxing place to stay. I would highly recommend a visit here.
