Three Bedroom Farm Holiday Cottage in Porthmadog | Llofft-Talar

Llofft Talar is a three bedroom farm holiday cottage in Porthmadog. Situated on the outskirts of town on a working farm, is it perfect for exploring Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula.

Porthmadog is a lovely harbour town offering some great independent shops, cafes and restaurants. From the harbour itself, a short walk will bring you to the fishing village of Borth Y Gest and a 5 minute drive in the car will take you to the world famous Portmeirion Village.

The piece de resistance of course, is the Ffestiniog Railway, a 150 year old steam train that takes you from Porthmadog harbour into the mountains of Snowdonia. Llofft Talar has the best view in the house as the steam train passes the back garden – such a beautiful sight to behold.

The interior of the cottage is simple with clean lines. The living rooms are upstairs and the bedrooms on the lower level.

Downstairs consists of a double bedroom with an ensuite and two twin rooms. All bedrooms are carpeted with achromatic colour schemes and beautiful, solid, white beds and wardrobes. Big plump duvets and an airy feel will ensure a good night sleep. The ensuite is a shower room – again, very simple with neutral colours. The family bathroom has a bath over shower arrangement.

Upstairs is a large sitting room with an apex roof. Wooden effect floors and big cosy leather sofas make the most of this lovely, light room, set off by the skylight windows. The kitchen next door is again a good size with a large dining room table and chairs at one end and the kitchen area at the other. Everything you would need to cater for your holiday is here all in a modern, clean and simple decor.

Outside, there is a patio section with wooden garden furniture where you can sit out on a beautiful summer evening and take in the surrounding mountains – simply stunning.

With a lovely patio area outside, you can sit out and take in the scenery and as you are also on a working farm, there is plenty of space in which to enjoy your country retreat. The Ffestiniog railway runs past the house and so you have first class views to see this 150 year old steam train in action as it makes its ascent into the mountains.

Porthmadog town centre is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute drive from the holiday cottage. There are lots of lovely cafes and restaurants; The Big Rock Cafe is a great place to go where they offer different types of street food from around the world along with lots of great breads, cakes and lunches, all made on site. Allports is where to go for fish and chips and on the harbour itself, you’ll find a fabulous Thai restaurant. If fresh fish is something you enjoy, Blas Y Mor fishmonger is the place to visit. All the main supermarkets are also found in Porthmadog.

Borth Y Gest is a 15 minute walk from the harbour and is a lovely little fishing village where you’ll find lots of pirates coves and quaint little tea shops. Portmeirion Village is also on your doorstep and most definitely a place to visit.

Porthmadog is a really great position to be in for exploring Snowdonia, The Llyn Peninsula and the North coast has all the main access roads come into and out of Porthmadog.  Criccieth is only 10 minutes by car where you’ll find the castle, Dylans Restaurant and a high street full of antique shops. From there you can travel further afield to discover the beaches on the Llyn and the other towns including the very popular Abersoch.

Head west into Snowdonia, you are only 15 minutes from Beddgelert and 30 minutes from larger towns like Llanberis where of course you have incredible walking, climbing, canyoning, kayaking, SUP, sailing and windsurfing opportunities in the mountains and on the lakes.

30 minutes North will take you to Caernarfon where you will, of course, find the castle and Bethesda which is home to the world famous Zip World.

Beautiful cottage, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean.
The owners had thought of everything.
Games room was great fun as were the selection of games. Easy access to all the sites and a quick walk into Porthmadog along the railway line. I definitely recommend it there

  2. Tracy Jeffries says:

Great accommodation, open plan living space ideal for 3 year old with toys. It was spotlessly clean and games room was great entertainment of an evening. Short walk into town alongside the railway line so not having to walk along roadsides, the owner was friendly. We had a great week and would definitely recommend/stay there again.

  3. Denise Convey says:

Lovely stay. Was a little worried as covid restrictions had just been lifted and we were first guests. Owner was great and allowed us in early. Place was spotless with antibacterial washes in all baths and kitchens. Loved that there were no soft furnishings apart from beds. I took my own zoflora and antibacterial sprays and was able to clean all myself, though I’m sure I didn’t need to. Just me. Games room was great. It was wet of an evening so set ourselves up there if an evening with music and cooler bags for beers. There are covid rules when leaving eg opening windows and stripping own beds and placing in bags in laundry room. Only too happy to assist with this. Great location and kitchen had everything you needed for self catering. Would definately return. Thanks DIoni

  4. Sally Smith says:

A lovely space with plenty of room for 6 adults. A decent sized kitchen although s few more bits of crockery and cutlery would have made the self catering easier. However it was a decent sized kitchen and we managed. Only a short walk from Porthmadog and nicely placed for exploring Cader Idris and Cnicht. Would definitely recommend it to others.

  5. Cathy Ellis says:

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at the cottage and were so impressed with how well presented everything is. The photos don’t do it justice. The beds were comfy and the kids were SOOOO excited when they found the games room (as were we as they then spent hours in there giving us some peace!).

What was really nice was that we felt like we were in the countryside whilst still being able to walk into Porthmadog in about 15 minutes along the railway line footpath.

We waved at many trains and had some lovely chats with the farmer. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back as the cottage made a fantastic base for days out, and was also a nice place to come back to to enjoy a glass (or two) of wine on the bench outside overlooking the hills, fields and the steam trains 🙂

  6. Mary Fletcher says:

The accomodation was lovely. All very clean, comfortable and warm
It would have been useful to know where the instructions were eg for dishwasher, we found them on the last day on high shelf above the fridge! Nice to have a welcome pack, maybe some milk included would be useful
It might have been easier to find the accomodation if the directions went from the turning from the roundabout, past the care home.
Hope this feedback is useful, as we really enjoyed our stay. Thankyou

  7. Emma Blades says:

The cottage is in a great location, it’s close to so many attractions. You can walk to Porthmadog too. It is missing a few bits in the kitchen, such as a chopping board, grater, baking trays, decent tin opener and no guest book to leave recommendations and such. We were left a lovely bottle of wine, crisps and fudge which were greatly appreciated. The cottage was very nicely done, and child friendly too.
The bakery in Porthmadog is outstanding! We love staying here and would definitely come back. Thank you!

  8. Teresa kelly says:

Beautiful cottage with everything we needed. Clean and spacious.
    Owners were friendly and helpful.
Lovely quiet location with beautiful views and easy to get out and about to see the countryside and beaches.
Would have been even better if the weather had been good!
Thank you for a lovely holiday would definitely recommend to friends.

  9. We had a very good relaxing week here, the cottage has been newly converted this year and boasts everything being brand new. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and there knowledge of the surrounding areas and places to eat were invaluable it is situated within a short driving distance of many beaches and attractions. The cottage is within a peaceful location with wonderful views of the mountains we will definitely return.
