Three Bedroom Pet Friendly Holiday Cottage in Harlech | Mehefin

The spacious lounge includes a large picture window overlooking a terraced front garden full of wildlife. The indispensable large flat screen TV sits in the corner while a modern wall mounted fire provides a natural focal point in the evening.

A lovely archway leads us into the adjoining kitchen diner. Solid wood fitted kitchen units houses all the essential appliances you’d expect, including a modern electric oven with gas hob, dishwasher and fridge freezer. (The washing machine is in the summerhouse in the back garden.) A simple dining table and chairs sits in front of a set of French doors leading out to the large rear garden of the cottage.

All three bedrooms are beautifully decorated. The largest of which has a kingsized bed and lots of fitted wardrobes and cupboards. It also benefits from a lavish en-suite bathroom complete with spa bath, powerful overhead shower, wc and washbasin. The other two bedrooms are twins. Again, both bedrooms are beautifully appointed and share a second bathroom with a large walk in shower, wc and washbasin.

Location

The cottage benefits from a large front garden and an even larger and private back garden. A small brook at the back of the garden is all that separates the cottage from a woodland area that stretches up behind the house. So, as you can imagine, the back garden is often filled with wildlife, squirrels, badgers and lots of different woodland birds making regular appearances.

Harlech itself is a lovely little town. The world famous castle is a must see of course and is only a short walk from the cottage. But there are a couple of really nice cafes in town too, a couple of pubs and a couple of restaurants to choose from. Again, all walking distance from the house. The beach is another natural draw for many of our guests. A beautiful sandy coastline that lines this part of the wonderful Cambrian Bay must be among the cleanest and most picturesque shorelines in the UK.

The larger harbour town of Porthmadog is about 20 minutes to the North while the ever-popular seaside resort of Barmouth is about 15 minutes to the south. Mount Snowdon is about 30 minutes away in the car but I would encourage guests to discover the less well-trodden hills and mountains that rise up just behind the cottage.

  1. Richard Barnes says:

Excellent accommodation in every respect, which suited us very well.
Wonderful view across the bay to the Lleyn peninsular.
The gift of cake and wine is a welcoming touch
No sign of the badgers – but post 11.00pm is a bit late for a 3 year old.
We have had a splendid week.

  2. Noel Carter says:

We had a very pleasant stay at the start of June. This is a very comfortable, well equipped and clean property. It was a pleasure to stay here. Just short walk to local shops and castle, a little further to the beach, which is really lovely. Steep hills in area will keep you fit, but this is a really good place to stay for a relaxing holiday.

  3. KE Payne says:

Lovely accommodation, more than enough room for the three of us, spotlessly clean and tidy on arrival. The scones, jam and cream, plus milk and wine waiting for us on arrival were all hugely appreciated. Both we and the dog greatly enjoyed the large back garden (the dog loved the little stream!) and we all spent many a happy hour sitting out there until the small hours. Perfectly located for the north Welsh coast plus the tourist attractions of Snowdonia. Owners were lovely and friendly and close by if we needed them. Cannot fault this accommodation. We will be back soon!

  4. David Bell says:

Fantastic stay in a home from home environment.

  5. Nicola says:

Had a lovely stay at Mehefin in Harlech. Nice and spacious cottage with all amenities. Also a wide variety of dvds and games to play in the cottage. The beach in Harlech was beautiful and great for taking the dogs for a walk.
Loved the added touch of a homemade cake on arrival.

We had a wonderful week at Mehefin. The bungalow is extremely comfortable and very well-equipped. We met Kay, the owner, when we arrived and she was very helpful throughout the week. The cake was delicious and the wine and milk was much appreciated.

The gardens are an added bonus and our 2 children loved having that outdoor space. The views of the sunset over the bay from the front garden are beautiful.

We have lots of happy memories from our stay at Mehefin and feel sure that we will be back.

  8. Catherine says:

We had a really fantastic weeks stay at Mehefin. The bungalow was immaculate, so clean and comfortable with everything we needed and more! Lovely warm welcome from the owner who arrived with homemade cake and a football for our son to use in the garden. Easy to walk into Harlech and the beach is dog friendly. Didn’t want to leave but will definitely be returning!

  9. Lisa Astbury says:

We had a lovely stay at Mehefin. The cottage was perfect and there is lots to do in Harlech and the surrounding area. The swimming pool is great on a wet day and don’t forget that the Theatre shows films some evenings. We didn’t see the badgers but they certainly enjoy peanuts. Not so keen on their veggies!

  10. Jacqueline Jones says:

Cottage is fab and has everything you need for a great holiday. The gardens are superb and so peaceful. Kay and Steve live nearby and are lovely people and very helpful.

Harlech itself is so picturesque and has a good mix of little shops. The ice-cream parlour became a regular for us. Lovely walk down to the beach and the only thing missing is a little cozy pub.

We are planning a return visit as so much to do in the area

  11. Janardan & Chitra says:

Many thanks, Steve and Kay, for hosting us in lovely Mehefin, your exceptionally well-designed, cosy cottage where we enjoyed our days of relaxation and leisure. We fully agree with all the positive comments from Mehefin’s earlier guests.

A very convenient base for exploring the Snowdonia region. Though we couldn’t meet the backyard badgers, your neighbour gave us his video post -check Harlech Badgers on youtube:-)

Can’t wait to be back..Thanks once again!
