Traditional Seaside Holiday Cottage in Llandanwg | Glan-Y-Mor

This beautiful semi detached home is a wonderful example of that traditional seaside holiday cottage. Situated in Llandanwg, near Harlech in North Wales, the house is in walking distance to one of the nicest sandy beaches in the U.K.

Llandanwg beach nearby

The most obvious way into the house once you’ve parked up is through the back door. The kitchen is the first room. Beautiful pastel colours and a luxurious granite worktop set the tone in here. An electric oven and induction hob as well as a tall fridge freezer is all included. The essential washing machine is in the entrance hall come utility room that we passed through. A charming shabby chic breakfast table and chairs sits at the far end of the room. Great for that morning coffee before the kids get up.

From here we walk through into the dining room. A bigger table here naturally. But again the subtle tones continue creating a lovely feeling of luxury beach house. A large casement window lets in plenty of light and there’s plenty of matching crockery in the kitchen.

The lounge is next. When you tire of looking at that sea view the log fire is the natural focal point in this room. Soft grey sofas hug three walls and a modern flat screen TV sits unobtrusively on the fourth.

There are two double rooms and one twin room on the first floor and one family room in the surprisingly spacious attic conversion. The double room towards the front of the house has the added luxury of looking out over Llandanwg beach and the coastline as it curves around towards Shell Island. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated just like the rest of the house with elegant bedside lamps, tasteful bedroom furniture and crisp white linen.

There are two bathrooms on the first floor. One bathroom has a bath as well as a separate shower cubicle, wc and washbasin. The second bathroom has another shower cubicle, wc and washbasin. There’s also a really convenient outside loo by the back door with plenty of space for lilos, snorkels, flippers etc.

Location is everything of course. We’re spoilt for choice for beaches in this part of North Wales. But Llandanwg beach is one of my favourites I think. It has the all important sandy stretch for sunbathing and sand castle building but the boulders and rock pools at the far end of the beach provide that little bit of extra interest that you don’t get on some of the other beaches. There’s also a really nice cafe down by the beach serving ice cream, tea, coffee, light lunches etc.

The famous castle town of Harlech is just a couple of miles up the coast road from the house. There are some really nice cafes and restaurants here and a small collection of shops. Barmouth, a traditional Victorian seaside town, is a 15 minute drive to the south has more pubs and restaurants and a slightly larger collection of shops.

A combination of beach walks and mountain walks accessible from your back door make this a great holiday base in both winter and summer. And a wealth of adventure activities in the area ensures that even the teenagers in your group will be happily entertained.

  3. Lynette McIntyre says:

Lovely cottage with wonderful views and close access to Llandanwg and Harlech beaches. Well equipped and spacious for our extended family. As in a previous comment, more mirrors would be useful and hand towels (as none were provided). A great holiday enjoyed by all.

  4. Andy Evans says:

We’ve just returned from our fourth stay at Glan y mor. We arrived on the 27th Dec to find the house decorated for Christmas. We used the lovely dining room for a belated Christmas dinner. We love this house and the area, it is ideal for leisurely walks to the beaches with our dogs. We will miss sitting in the front room gazing at the ever changing views from the window.

  5. Debbie says:

Really enjoyed the lovely house and stunning area. Great size for a family. Hamper items were well chosen and tasty. I did ask if logs were supplied and was told there would be enough for a fire so was disappointed to find 1 log! Our small dog did escape under the gate one morning so I had to run up the lane in my pyjamas!

Having enjoyed all that Glan y Mor has to offer, we have booked a return visit for next year. From the welcome pack to the wonderful views the cottage fitted our requirements admirably. Finding the nearby path, with 122 steps down to the southern end of Harlech beach was exciting. Only to be capped by then seeing dolphins in Tremadoc bay. One improvement would be the fitting of mirrors in the 2 bedrooms that have none and the other 2 bedrooms that do have mirrors were found to be too high for the average height guest. But – hey ho – 2 minutes out in the wet, windy,Welsh weather soon recreated the dishevelled look anyway!

  7. Katherine Tunnah says:

Gorgeous, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Beautifully decorated and furnished, a real home from home. Location is perfect for Llandanwg and Harlech beaches, all the family had an amazing week here. Hope to return next year!

Really very good, great house & facilities, excellent location, really pleased with our choice.
2 things I will fault but others may not, I thought the duvets were too heavy for this time of year (june) maybe have a few blankets as an alternative & secondly the blinds were fairly ineffective meaning I was woken up early every morning.
Otherwise terrific & we may well book again next year
